Minority SBDM Elections
Special SBDM Parent Rep Nomination Notice
I hope you’ll consider running for our school council or encourage a friend to do so! In Kentucky, each school has a School Based Decision Making (SBDM) council composed of the principal, elected teachers, and elected parents. The council is in charge of making many of the most important decisions about how the school operates and supports student achievement. The council is a wonderful chance to learn about our school, work closely with teachers, and help make our school even more successful than it is now.
Parents elect the 2 parent members of the council who will receive training and serve now through June 2024. However, we are holding a special election for a minority parent representative. This is required by law when a school has greater than 8% minority student population.
Nominations for a minority parent representative are due via THIS FORM by 5pm on Monday, October 23rd. If you know someone who would be a good candidate, please encourage that person to run. If we have nominations, the election will be held at Roby Elementary on October 27th from 8am to 5pm in the front office.
Our SBDM council meets once monthly on a Tuesday from 4:30-5:30pm
Bus Cancellation & YMCA Partnership
Beginning on Tuesday Oct. 10th!
Who: This service is now being offered to ELEMENTARY and MIDDLE school families.
Cost: There is no cost to the families participating.
How: The child's bus must have been canceled for the day. Families may select AM, PM, or BOTH for their children. The YMCA will allow drop off at 7am and they request families pick up by 5:30pm (these times have changed from last year - used to be 6am/6pm). Elementary students must attend the YMCA program of the school in which they attend, unless otherwise noted. Due to limited capacity at some locations, space may be unavailable. Entries are accepted until 9:00 AM.
Notification: When buses are canceled, transportation will send their usual morning bus cancellation message. Within the content of the message will be a link to the YMCA Childcare Registration Form and a YMCA Registration Form for Canceled Buses form (both linked below) for parents to complete.
Forms: Any family opting to use this service will need the CEP Registration on file with the YMCA to participate in this transportation option (linked below). If families do not have one on file, they can use the online registration link or they can fill out a paper copy at the YMCA site. After a student is registered once, they do not have to complete another registration for the year. This is a new calendar year, and forms submitted last year are no longer valid. Families cannot submit a CEP in anticipation of use.

Golden Ticket Event on 10.13.23
We are going to reward our students for meeting our CARE expectations with Golden Ticket events throughout the year! These CARE expectations extend beyond the classroom to wellness, the bus, the cafeteria and during dismissal. Our CARE expectations are as follows:
Care for Self For example: persist through challenges, attend to task, try our best, ask for help, make safe decisions, etc.
Care for Others For example: saying please & thank you, safe actions, respect others space, return books on time, refrain from interrupting, using appropriate/safe voice levels per activity (i.e. voice level 0 in the halls at all times), etc.
Care for our Space For example: pick up after myself and trash that I see instead of walking past it, returning items to their place, using restroom facilities correctly, being gentle with school items, closing doors gently, etc.
What is it? Students with a "Golden Ticket" are able to participate in our Golden Ticket Reward Events. We anticipate hosting these events approximately once a nine weeks. Our Caregivers will offer an an experience around cooking, yoga, puzzles, board games, chess, art, dance, cookie decorating, coding, origami, soccer, basketball, breakout games, jewelry making, rock painting, scrapbooking, minecraft, perler beads, comic book creators, Kona Ice, and many more.
When are the events?
October 13th
December 15th (TENTATIVE DATE)
March 1st (TENTATIVE DATE) K-4th Gr.
March 1st (TENTATIVE DATE) - 5th Grade Dance
May 15th - (TENTATIVE DATE) - Talent Shows (K-2 and 3-5th)
How does it work? Students will sign up for the experience they would like to attend. If students have a Golden Ticket, they will be able to attend. Any student who receives a minor Care Form or an Office Referral will participate in our reflection room in place of this event. If a student does not meet the expectations in our reflection room, they may not be eligible to participate in our next Golden Ticket event. GOOD NEWS: Students get the opportunity to reset after each Golden Ticket event. All students have the opportunity to earn this event. We began tracking student data for this event starting on 8.22.23 after information was communicated to families. We surveyed the students to determine interest and offered only those activities!
Students who fail to meet the expectations may choose to apply for a principal pardon. K-1 teachers will facilitate scheduling a meeting between the student and Dr. Scott if it is requested. Pardons will only be granted for minor behaviors and only for students who have very few behavior incidents.
Volunteers: If you would like to assist a teacher with leading a small Golden Ticket group or if you would like to provide supplies for a group, please reach out to Kelley Moore for a full list of our groups. Parents who are volunteering will not necessarily be assigned the group their child is assigned to and must have current background check on file with the school.
