Chromebooks & Backpacks & Red Folders
Reminder: Students should bring a backpack, red communication folders, and their Chromebook EVERY DAY to school! Students should also have winter clothing on (jackets, gloves, hats) until it warms up later this Spring!
If you are in need of a backpack or new folder, reach out to your child's teacher or Mekayla Belcher, our FRC at Roby.
In the event of weather conditions that will prohibit school from meeting in person, we will provide the following educational opportunities for students. Please monitor the weather and we will make a school-wide decision about sending home chromebooks. During traditional NTI, students MUST participate in the google meet, turn in work, or families must communicate with the teacher regarding when child is completing the work by 3:30pm to be considered present or “participating” for that day.

For our new families - How to...
COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER!
We communicate with families via the following app! You may also use this app to communicate with the principal and counselor!
Step 1: Directions on how to add the BCPS app and use the app are LINKED HERE.
Step 2: Reach out to your child's teacher via email if you need your child(ren)'s "magic code" for adding your child. Parents who remain in the district will be members during your child's entire BCPS career. These codes are CASE sensitive!
Administration will reach out to the parents/guardians of students who have not responded to ANY teacher communication (voicemails, emails, messages) as this is a concern. In order to provide CARE for your child, we must be able to communicate with you!
Parent Needs & Concerns
If you have a need or a concern that requires attention, you have multiple methods to gain the support that you or your child needs.
Step 1: Always reach out to your child's teacher first (if it is reference to something that happened in class or in reference to the teacher). We will politely redirect you to the teacher if this is something that has not been done. If needed, schedule a meeting with the teacher.
Step 2: If you are not satisfied with their response or if it is regarding something unrelated to the teacher (i.e. need assistance with food/clothing, access to school based counseling, chromebook repair fee, etc.), fill out the form at the top of the newsletter and on the website titled Contact Roby Leadership. Your response will be automatically directed to the appropriate person who will respond in 1 business day.
Step 3: If the need is more pressing than 1 business day, call the office and relay this information to Dr. Scott's secretary Ms. Meagan Pack. She will pass the information on to the correct person who will contact you as soon as possible and within 1 business day. Rest assured that we will respond as soon as possible and based on the level of need/priority your concern is compared to the other items we are working on. We value you and your child and want to give the same thought, time and attention to your concern that we may be currently spending with another student/parent.
Step 4: If you need a meeting with an administrator, please call the school and ask for Ms. Meagan Pack. She will schedule an appointment for you. Please give a brief explanation of the purpose of the meeting. This can typically be accomplished in 1-2 business days. We will value the time that you scheduled to discuss your concern. If your concern involves your child's behavior or succes on the bus or in class, the bus driver or a staff member will be included in the meeting. The meeting will need to be scheduled during that staff member's planning or at our next available appointment before/after school.
Step 5: If you are not satisfied with the outcome of a situation/concern after talking with the teacher and an administrator through the process above, ask the administrator what your next steps might be (these depend on the situation).
NOTE: BCPS has a civility policy that must be followed for parents/guardians to continue to have access to the building and to talk with staff. Go to the KSBA online manual (HERE) to read this policy. We ask that you follow this policy and refrain from causing a disruption, raising your voice, and using profanity while on our campus or at a school sponsored event.
CARE is important to our school community. We ask that you give our teachers and administrators time, through the process above, to resolve any needs or concerns that arise.
Golden Ticket Event in March
We are continuing to reward our students for meeting our CARE expectations with Golden Ticket events throughout the year! These CARE expectations extend beyond the classroom to wellness, the bus, the cafeteria and during dismissal. Our CARE expectations are as follows:
Care for Self For example: persist through challenges, attend to task, try our best, ask for help, make safe decisions, etc.
Care for Others For example: saying please & thank you, safe actions, respect others space, return books on time, refrain from interrupting, using appropriate/safe voice levels per activity (i.e. voice level 0 in the halls at all times), etc.
Care for our Space For example: pick up after myself and trash that I see instead of walking past it, returning items to their place, using restroom facilities correctly, being gentle with school items, closing doors gently, etc.
What is it? Students with a "Golden Ticket" are able to participate in our Golden Ticket Reward Events. Sometimes Caregivers will offer an an experience around cooking, yoga, puzzles, board games, chess, art, dance, cookie decorating, coding, origami, soccer, basketball, breakout games, jewelry making, rock painting, scrapbooking, minecraft, perler beads, comic book creators, Kona Ice, and many more. Other times, our Golden Ticket event will be a dance or talent show.
When are the events?
March 1st - 5th Grade Dance
March 2nd - K-4th Grade *PTA is tentatively planning a K-2 Special Person Dance (students must attend with special person) and a 3rd-4th Grade Dance for the evening of March 2nd (at different times)
May 15th - (TENTATIVE DATE) - Talent Shows (K-2 and 3-5th)
How does it work? Only students who meet the Golden Ticket event criteria are eligible to attend their respective dance. GOOD NEWS: Students get the opportunity to reset after each Golden Ticket event. All students have the opportunity to earn this event. We reset data and all students were eligible on 1.3.24 but must maintain this eligibility.
Students who fail to meet the expectations may choose to apply for a principal pardon. K-1 teachers will facilitate scheduling a meeting between the student and Dr. Scott if it is requested. Pardons will only be granted for minor behaviors and only for students who have very few behavior incidents.
Volunteers: If you would like to assist with the dance please reach out to Ms. London or our PTA! Parents who are volunteering will not necessarily be assigned the group their child is assigned to and must have current background check on file with the school.
