Background

The CITL, once again, is conducting a training workshop on Assessment in Action: Advancing Transformative Outcome-Based Education for Teaching and Testing on August 22, September 24, October 29, and November 12, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM via Zoom. This series of training workshops aims to equip our faculty with a deeper understanding of Outcome-Based Assessment (OBA) and its practical application in designing and implementing outcome-based assessments. Through this initiative, we hope to foster a more learner-centered approach to teaching and evaluation, aligned with our institutional goals for academic excellence and global relevance.

Rationale

The proposed training-workshop seeks to enhance Bukidnon State University’s commitment to academic excellence by deepening faculty members’ understanding of Outcome-Based Assessment (OBA) and its practical application in teaching and evaluation. It aims to equip educators from both the main and satellite campuses with learner-centered assessment strategies aligned with institutional goals and global standards. By fostering a culture of outcomes-based teaching and testing, the training will support the continuous improvement of curriculum materials, promote consistency in assessment practices, and ensure that learning outcomes are clearly defined, achieved, and measured. With the guidance of an experienced OBE specialist, this initiative will strengthen the university’s pursuit of transformative, inclusive, and globally responsive education.

Objectives

gain a deep understanding of OBA principles, allowing them to align their teaching methodologies and curricula with modern educational trends;
explore diverse assessment modalities, acquiring practical strategies and tools for implementing OBA, including student-centered learning, data-driven decision-making, and adaptive teaching methods, resulting in more effective teaching practices; and
enhance student learning outcomes: By adopting OBA principles, educators can expect to see improved learning outcomes in their students, including better performance in assessments and a greater focus on skill development.

Expected Outcome

Foundations and Alignment of Outcome-Based Assessment
Participants will gain a clear understanding of the principles and rationale of Transformative Outcome-Based Education (TOBE), align course-level assessments with Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) and program outcomes, and ensure coherence between learning outcomes and appropriate assessment tools.
Design and Implementation of Authentic Assessment Strategies
Faculty will distinguish between different assessment purposes (of, for, and as learning), recognize the value of authentic and performance-based assessments, and design tasks and rubrics that promote higher-order thinking and evaluate key competencies beyond factual recall.
Assessment Integration, Data Utilization, and Policy Enhancement
Participants will learn to integrate diverse assessment methods, analyze and use assessment data to inform teaching and curriculum decisions, contribute to long-term assessment planning, and propose improvements to institutional assessment policies aligned with TOBE principles.
