FedEx uses Zebra printers (common models are (ZP505 and ZD506). These printers are known for their direct thermal printing capabilities, 203 dpi resolution, and ability to print labels up to 4.09 inches wide and 39 inches long.
During the FedEx onboarding process, you will be asked if they would like a printer from FedEx. If you indicate yes, IDS will alert FedEx and a printer will be shipped to your library.
Yes, all IDS member who use a UPS printer must return it once they have successfully transitioned to FedEx. UPS does charge a weekly rental fee for printers, so this is an anticipated area of savings for the organization.
Once you have completed the FedEx onboarding process, IDS will provide instructions for returning your printer to UPS.
Yes, FedEx will provide shipping labels at no charge to IDS members. IDs will work with members to determine the required labels and get an initial shipment out.
Labels can be ordered on the FedEx Support Hub, which will be set up once you start the transition to FedEx.
The free labels provided by FedEx work best with the printers FedEx will supply for free. There are doc, non doc and fanfold labels. DocTab labels are a sticker with a pocket whereas the non doc is just a sticker. If you continue to use your own printer, you can use whatever works best. FedEx will supply plastic pouches if you print onto paper.
Yes. When you create your shipping label there is an option to create a return label. When the return labels are actually used (scanned by FedEx on a package), it will count as one package for the member library. This is a the same practice as UPS.
FedEx does provide shipping pouches and you can order as many as you need. FedEx does not supply boxes or bubble envelopes. IDS has secured a 20% member discount with Brodart for bubble envelopes. Use DPENN to obtain the discount at checkout. You can also recycle envelopes and boxes by removing any old shipping labels.
Yes, FedEx will provide see through label pouches for free. They can be ordered on the Support Hub with the part number noted above.
FedEx does not supply boxes for Ground Service. Members can recycle packaging or use the same type of shipping boxes and envelopes they used with UPS.
If you are not sure who owns your label printer, please email IDS@BucksIU.Org. IDS will followup with any libraries who need to return UPS printers as the transition process unfolds.
