Thupten Palmo

Animal Behavior '27

My name is Thupten Palmo. I am a sophomore at Bucknell University, pursuing a major in Animal Behavior. I’m originally from Tibet but was born and raised in India. Growing up, I have been around animals and they have never failed to fascinate me. I always wondered what they wanted to communicate and would try to analyze through their actions, etc. My love and passion for them drew me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

Professor Takahashi’s lab caught my attention the most amongst other undergraduate research opportunities because of his concentration in conservation. I wanted to broaden my understanding in the research field focusing on conservation, enhancing animals' lives and his lab made a perfect fit. Additionally, for my veterinary career, I’m interested in both companion and wildlife animals. I believe being a part of Professor Takahashi’s lab would open doors of opportunities, expand my knowledge and grow as a student researcher.

Outside of academics, I’m a big outdoor and sports enthusiast. At Bucknell, I’m involved in different clubs and I very much enjoy meeting new people there. I’m also the affinity leader for Global Home, social chair for Global Student Council and a secretary for Karate club. I am also the co-director for Sontsa Initiative, an online- based organization that helps Tibetan youths in exile with US college applications.
