Attendance

ATTENDANCE

Attendance at school is mandated for every child age 5 - 18 and there are strict laws concerning truant students. A student is considered to be "in attendance" if present at school for at least half of the regular day. With the new definitions of excused absences, for absences 1 through 9, a student's absences is considered excused when the parent or guardian approves the absence and it is properly documented with the school. Parent's must report their child's absence to the school within 10 days. Absences NOT reported within 10 days are considered unexcused and counted toward truancy.

*A student's 10th absences and all absences over 10 in a given school year are considered excused for the following reasons:

  1. student illness verified by a licensed medical professional (Dr's. Note).

  2. student's observance of a religious holiday.

  3. death in the student's family or other emergency beyond the control of the student's family.

  4. mandated court appearances (additional documentation required).

  5. the lack of transportation that is normally provided by the district other than the one the student attends.

  6. extraordinary educational opportunities pre-approved by the district administrator and in accordance with CT State Dept of Ed. guidelines.
