I am the current Sexual Consent Education lead for Oxford Brookes University. The project began in 2018 when it was noted that the SCE within the institution required a review in terms of its efficacy. In consultation with students via focus groups and a feasibility study, an online sexual consent education was developed in conjunction with Brook Advisory. It was agreed that this module would become mandatory at the request of the students and in September 2023 the module was launched via Moodle. At this point in the semester, the feedback has been very positive, and we will be able to develop the module and embed the concept of this very important issue within our University setting.

The University has also introduced optional consent training for colleagues on the Staff Learning Portal. This content is the same as the student course, which takes the approach that consent matters to everyone regardless of age, culture or background.
While all staff are encouraged to engage with this training, student-facing staff may find it helps contextualise conversations that may occur with students about the course content.
Additionally, there is bystander intervention training available on the Staff Learning Portal.
Any colleagues who are affected by the course content can access support via Occupational Health or the Employee Assistance Portal.
Academic staff also have the option to present a slide with a summary of the key information, webpages and support for students during teaching sessions.
