Whilst we are an online school, we still want you to feel like part of our school community.
Watch this short video from Katie Campos our director of Student Engagement to see all the different ways we can make you feel a little closer, even if we are far apart!
At our school, we believe in small, personable classrooms. As our student body grew, we wanted to maintain a close-knit and collaborative environment, so we created a “House” system.
Brilliant Microschools is now divided into several Houses, and this number will grow with our student body. Each House has about 10 to 15 teachers, and assistant principals serve as House Leaders.
Each House celebrates diversity and develops its own unique culture. They are named alphabetically after places from myths or fantasy, check out our current houses below!
Throughout the year, students can contribute to their House’s culture by creating class symbols for the House’s coat of arms. We also have House-wide assemblies where students can share their work and socialize.

Electives are a fantastic addition to online education at BMS, offering many benefits that make learning more enriching and enjoyable. They help students tailor their education to their interests, build new skills, and stay engaged with their studies. Electives also prepare students for college, careers, and lifelong learning. By allowing students to dive into subjects they are passionate about, electives make education more exciting and meaningful and also provide opportunities for socialization and spending time with classmates outside of their main classes. This exploration of different topics not only fuels their curiosity but also provides a well-rounded educational experience, helping them grow both academically and personally.
These are our Core main electives that are offered to our General Education students- Spanish, Health & PE, Digital Art and Coding. Sessions are once a week and last 50 minutes and there are different time slots available to ensure flexibility. Check these short videos from some of the elective tutors out below, and reach out if you are interested or have any questions!

Alongside our more academic electives, we also have clubs focusing on specific interests. From Chess to Roblox, we offer a range of activities to suit your child's passions and allow them to connect with other students who share those interests. This creates a social and collaborative environment for like-minded students, helping them make friends and enjoy their school experience even more. Whether your child loves coding, playing music, or exploring new hobbies, there's something here for everyone! Check out the options below!

What about ESE students?
While we don't currently offer ESE students electives or clubs, we are working on making this happen, so check back here for updates!
At Brilliant Microschools, we believe learning goes far beyond the screen. That’s why we love organizing in-person field trips and parent-hosted meetups—they’re a fun and meaningful way for our students and families to connect, explore, and grow together. Our field trips give kids the chance to experience the world firsthand, bringing their lessons to life in places like the Virginia Aquarium, SeaWorld Orlando, and the American Museum of Natural History in New York City (just to name a few!).
Our parent-hosted meetups are just as special. Whether it’s a casual hangout at a park, a playground meetup, or grabbing a bite together at a local restaurant, these gatherings have popped up in cities like Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Queens, Phoenix, Boston, Jacksonville, Portland, Sacramento, San Antonio, Kansas City—and the list goes on! Each meetup sparks lasting connections, with families staying in touch through WhatsApp groups long after the day is over. It’s one of the many ways our community continues to support and uplift one another.
Our virtual school is dedicated to fostering friendship and social skills through engaging online events. We host talent shows, science fairs, and showcases that bring students together within their "houses," with about five classes participating at a time. These events provide a platform for students to share their talents, discoveries, and achievements, encouraging collaboration and camaraderie. By participating in these events, students not only enhance their academic experience but also build lasting friendships and develop essential social skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

We believe in the importance of creating a strong sense of community within our online school, and that's why we offer opportunities for parents to get involved. By engaging with our school community, parents can stay connected to their children's education and build meaningful relationships with teachers and other families. This involvement helps replicate the supportive and interactive environment found in traditional brick-and-mortar schools. Plus, when parents participate, it enhances the overall learning experience and fosters a deeper sense of belonging for both students and their families.
Our Parent Facebook Group, Brilliant Family Circles, offers you the chance to connect with other parents from our virtual school community, share tips and experiences on virtual learning and parenting, and discover helpful resources and tools for your child's education. You can also arrange meetups or virtual gatherings with local parents. Join us and become part of a supportive and resourceful network!
You can also keep a look for our virtual coffee mornings, which are informal meet-up sessions organized by us, for you to meet and mingle with other parents and guardians from your child's class. We organize these for different classes throughout the school year and even if you can only attend for 5 minutes, your participation and support mean a lot to us.
We are always thinking of different ways to connect with our wider school, so watch this space!
