We are better together

Core Values

We had planned to wait on updating the website this week, but the students were eager to return to it. Therefore, we are delighted to present some group writings on Bridges' Core Values. As you may know, Bridges has six core values that serve as the foundation for us to build a strong community where everyone feels they belong. In the words of our students, we present to you the Core Values.

Honor: what does honor mean to you?

Honor means respecting others and treating people how you'd want to be treated. It also means respecting animals, school supplies, family, and everything. You must treat people how you'd like to be treated; otherwise, they might dis-serve you. And trust me, you do not wish to be dis-served. It also means keeping and not breaking your promises because you aren't honoring them if you break a promise. And if she breaks a promise, you can be taken to court, and failing that promise could be used as evidence against you. It won't be there because we are too young to go to court. Okay, that is all I have to say for my reason for honor.

Honor means doing what you say you're going to do when you say you're going to do it. It means that you should always follow through with what you say because if you don't, other people might not either, so it's always better to do it when you say you're going to do it as I have learned. I'm going to, and I have to be better at it all the time, and I know many people do, but that's what other means to me bye! These are only one of the core values.

What Compassion Means to Us

There are a lot of ways to talk about compassion, here are just a few short words that relate to compassion for us: Empathy, kindness, caring, hopeful, helping and Giving Ms. Pritchard her tea. I know that wasn’t one word, but compassion is.  Compassion is involved with integrity, it can be doing the right thing for someone even when nobody sees or realizes it, and making it kind. The reward for compassion is the fuzzy feeling of doing the right thing. While one of the rewards for compassion is just a feeling, it can do wonders for friendships later on.

Some scenarios for compassion are when a peer is feeling down, and you cheer them up. When someone is having trouble with school work, it is a good thing to help them out, not do it, but help.

What does excellence mean to you?

By: Theo Hudson and Rowan

What does excellence mean to our readers? At Bridges excellence is doing your best work and not rushing through your work. An example of this is Pointillism because you have to be really precise and patient. Another example of excellence is sometimes I think I'm doing bad in school but then we realize that as long as I'm trying hard I'm getting better and that means that we are doing well in school. In conclusion excellence is putting in hard work .

Citizenship

By Ethan, Austin, and Sam L.

Citizenship is being helpful to everybody else. Citizenship is being helpful to everybody else because being a good citizen means being helpful to all. Like giving knowledge to everybody. One example is showing the steps of a math problem on the whiteboard. Another example is in choosing website topics mentioning an elective that people did. Our final example is while working on a big art project showing how to make the piece. Some jobs that have Citizenship are library, napkins, chairs, sweeping, and pencil sharpening among many others. These are just some of the many examples of Citizenship.

What does integrity mean to you?

By Pendleton, Nelson and Madelyn

Integrity is not lying, doing the right things for the right reasons. Here are some examples: If you bump into a poster in the hallway, picture this, you are walking down a hallway and you see trash on the floor, what do you do most of the time? People would walk past it. Integrity is where you would pick it up even though you know there are no rewards. In conclusion, core values are a “core” part of the school.

What does justice mean?

Justice means:

To treat people with respect and do the right thing. If somebody asks you for help, help them. To do the right thing and to show other people what doing the right thing is.

That everybody has different needs.

Do not blame on only one person's shoulders if everyone has a part in it.

Treat everyone the way you want to be treated.

 That everybody should have rights.

To Have respect for everyone's needs.

Do not discriminate.

To donate to charity.

What does integrity mean to you?

To me, integrity means doing the right thing even if you don't get anything in return. I believe that integrity means keeping your word and not losing somebody's trust. For example, have you been trusted with something you don't want to do, something that could be rude or irresponsible. This is what integrity means to me.

What Compassion Means to Us

By Ewan, Riley and Rory

Compassion is to care for people that are having a hard time. It is understanding when someone is having a hard time. What they say, they don’t really mean. So you should just give them space and understand that they’re having a hard time. It is also that you shouldn't make it all about yourself.

When you show compassion you are helping someone in need, or caring for someone if they’re having a hard time.
