Soccer Elective

The Westing Game

By Austin

In reading class, we are reading The Westing Game. The Westing Game is where 16 heirs (their jobs include, a judge, a bookie, a thief, a doorman/boxer/fired employee, and a mistake) go to a place known as Sunset Towers. The heirs play a game that is part of the will of Samuel W. Westing, owner of Westing Paper Products. During this game, they are given clues to find out which one of them killed Sam Westing. The book contains 30 chapters in which the 16 heirs figure out the murderer with the 4 or 5 clues they have each been given, and all take different methods to find out who it is and get the answer. We are at chapter 28 in The Westing Game. Now, if I told you more I would spoil the book, and I'm out of time, so I guess this is the end.

⚽Soccer Elective ⚽

By Tessa

With Soccer Elective, we get to go off campus to a track field we share with other people. Last Friday, we learned a drill called The British Bulldog, where there's a rectangle, there are guards inside the rectangle, and you have to dribble past them. There are two lines, so when one person goes on one side of the line, the other person goes at the same time, so they switch lines. There was also a game we learned how to play called Moving Goals. Two people hold a noodle and and they're running around and you have to kick the soccer ball through the noodle, but it's hard because the people are moving—soccer Elective and all the other electives last at least an hour. You can bring your own soccer ball to the elective because we don't always have enough soccer balls!

That's all I have for today. That's Tessa signing out from Flamingo South. ☺️

Soccer Elective

By Madelyn

There are new Electives. These Electives are for 6 weeks. The other Electives are Gardening, Drawing, Geography, and Soccer, which is the one I'm doing, and we get to go off-campus. We do drills and play games. We go to a track that is a 10 minute walk away. Some of the drills are Give and Go passing and shooting. Give and Go is where we have two people and one soccer ball that you pass back and forth, weaving through the cones, and when you get to the end, the person shoots it at the goal. This Elective is run by Mr. Keenen and Mrs. Jex and we sometimes get volunteers to help us. All grades do the Electives and they last about an hour. The Soccer Elective is lots of fun. That is all! This is Madelyn signing out from Flamingo South.

Soccer

By Rowan

My elective is soccer. Every Friday we go to the track with Mr. Keenan and Miss Jex. One of the drills we've done is where there's a box in the middle made from cones and two teams. There are three people in that little box that are trying to defend the two teams from getting past and passing the ball to the other team. This can continue through with the person in the front doing the same thing.

TINY REALTORS

By Riley and Ewan

In Math in Mr. Leonette’s class, we are doing a very, very fun project: Tiny Homes. We are building small houses with our math skills, using our knowledge of surface area. There are a lot of exciting things that are being built, such as a nuclear cooling tower. Don't question it. All you need to know is that it is not either Riley or Ewan’s. (The possible suspect is Kalman…) There is also a house that has a very, very questionable garden. Its garden… is Minecraft. (This possible suspect is Riley…)  But that isn't the only strange garden. There's a house where on one side of it the lawn is… blue? (This possible suspect’s name is jwan…) (OBJECTION! I ran out of green colored pencils…)

We’re supposed to make furniture using a grid built onto the floors, walls, and ceiling, then assemble the house, and then give out word problems for pizza to solve. (Sorry. I’m hungry.) Also, the furniture tends not to end up being furniture. It sometimes ends up being something like nuclear power rods. (Looking at you, Kalman…)

So, when we assemble the house, we have to make the bottom stand up (No, not bottoms with legs, that would just be silly) by curving the lines on the outskirts of the house curl against each other, make sure the roof and the southern wall can freely open, and… TADA!!! You have a tiny home! Anyway, that was our website. See you later!

NOTE: SOME OF THE INFORMATION IN THIS WEBSITE IS CLASSIFIED. DO NOT BLAME US IF WE SOUND MENACING OR BARBARIC ON THIS TOPIC. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

Art Class with Ms Prichard

By Abby

Art is AWESOME!!! And you can't change my mind and I stand firm with my decision. If you're an art hater… oof… then you're so missing OUT. Art helps you grow and healthen up. In art class, we are preparing for Top God. We can choose whether or not we want to make a gallery piece. Then at Top God the art piece will be displayed so everyone can see the students’ artwork and poster board and admire the works of art! (Sorry, my website is shorter than usual, I have to wear a mask because I am still a little bit sick and can’t use speech to text well)

Science board project

In science we are doing a project. Where we're put in groups of four. We are given a topic to write about and research. I'm in the human impact group. Right now I'm researching how pets affect the bird population, how birds that breed in captivity are affected, how birds that are captured in the wild are affected, and last but definitely  not least direct human contact with wild birds. My friends are working on: pollution, hunting, climate change, and unintentional effects on birds. First and first we need to research, then we copy it down on a notes page, check with multiple sources to see if it's reliable, write it and then put the links we used. After that, we have to print everything out (after it's edited) and put it onto a board. Once we're done, we all put our names on the top, yes all of us. This means that no one's claiming the work that they did and you can't tell who did what, everybody did something and that's how it's supposed to go.

Freedom catch

Freedom Catch is a new game in Fitness that involves cones, taggers, and dodgeballs. How the game works is there will be a box made out of cones and a line about a 5th away from one of the walls. What you must do is there will be two taggers released into the box. Those two taggers need to try and tag everybody and get them in the end zone which is outside of the box. But you can save them by tossing a dodgeball and then catching it at one of the cones. This is a new game because recently, for every single Fitness, you've been going out to the park!

   The park

Freedom Tagger is basically like  but there's balls and cones if you get tagged you go to jail. The only way you can get out of jail is if someone goes at a cone and throws it at you and you catch it. but to make the not game easy no fly buys you have to stand behind the throwing not the guard Line  that would be too easy. The taggers can also block the balls. So my strategy for the tagger was one person tag and the other blocks. And each round we get less and less cones which means less and less places for you to throw. Which means less people can throw. We also have been playing secret agent tag. Two secret agents don't want to get tagged by The Two taggers. The taggers don't know who the secret agents are and the secret agents unfreeze people. imagine freeze tag but you don't know who the people who can unfreeze and not everybody can unfreeze you. The game ends when both secret agents get caught and tagged. One point for the Taggers, or when the time Runs out, One point for the secret agent. secret agent tag can tag the other agent. I hope you catch the ball, I hope your week is good. Banks out.

My elective is gardening, where we garden with Ms. Pritchard. I have gardened before with my mom. Tomorrow, we are going on a field trip for gardening. In this elective, I garden with my mom, who is a volunteer. I have fun in this elective.

Science Posters

You know how the eighth graders are doing Top God presentations well us flamingos are going to be doing science boards. Science boards are going to be a bunch of research papers glued on a board. There will be many subject topics. Each of the approximately seven groups will get one. Here's a list of a few Pap new guinea birds, bird parts, prehistoric birds etc…

Once each group was selected, they would come up with 20 questions and divide them up for everyone. Then, they would write many pages of information about their subjects. Once they are all done, we will contemplate how to format the board.

   Elective

In electives last week, we looked at plants and what type of pots they need. A common mistake people make is moving a plant into a bigger pot too fast when it is growing, which causes everything to dry up and die. We painted rocks last week. We also had to pull weeds to uncover a beautiful brick spiral. This week, we are going on a field trip to Cornell Farms, and I can't wait.

Science Boards

Nelson

Hello, today I'm talking about science boards. You might be wondering what science boards well that's what I'm here to tell you. Basically all we do is write a three-paragraph essay at least And it has to be about birds because if you don't know that is our topic of science, specifically the evolution of birds.I got assigned legs and eyes all I have to do is explain the evolution of legs and the eyes. So that, 's The rest of my team got other parts of the evolution of birds. One got beaks, which I think is pretty cool. So that's all for this week thanks for reading.

Bridges Science: Top God

By Ben

Here on this planet there are many interesting things we still have to learn and explain. Humanity has faced much trial and error in explaining weird phenomena around us. Religions have been made and have fallen over all of history because of disagreements of the desired explanation of life. Some of these faiths are still here today, but there are still unanswered questions all around us all the time. In my opinion, the closest we have ever gotten to finally truly explaining it is science. Here at Bridges, we can be part of this research to explain the unexplained at Top God! First of all, what we [flamingos] are exactly doing is composing one of our many contributions to the end-of-the-year show, Top God, as a science board. This is really not so different from the average school science fair, except all of the research is put on the board. The first step to doing this is gathering questions for the board by going around the group. Then we find trusted and legitimate information from assorted sources. We then get to writing, our goal is to have at least a decent page of writing. We then organize information and such on to a board, put on some visuals, tidy it up and then we are done. The science boards, in the end, really are worth all of the work.

A Perspective of a Flamingo - Top God at

Bridges Middle School

Sam S.

4/18/24

Hi, and Welcome back to Website Thursday (he says in a very weird voice). Take a seat and grab your popcorn because this is going to be a fun one. TOP GOD WORK!!! Currently, in Science/Writing class we are working on our Science boards to go on display for Top God, some of the Math classes are doing a little project for Top God, 7th graders are doing something in Growth Mindset, and the 8th graders (the most important at the moment) are working on their speeches, and their presentations to present at Top God! Since I am a Flamingo, I will tell you about what we are doing. Currently most people are on their paragraph writing which will be printed and displayed on their board with pictures, sources, decoration, a title, and the names of everyone in your group. Before we started writing we had to do research, and topic assignments. Researching is done on trusted websites with information that is all true. We also make notes to help keep our minds fresh with juicy information to put into writing later. Once the writing is finished, it is edited by team members and teacher approved before it gets printed to go on to the board. ONLY when we are done with all of the writing is when we can start designing the board and finding pictures for the board. Anyways that is from the perspective of an A+ Flamingo!

Thanks for reading!

MAP Testing

by Daniel

Last week we did our last set of MAP testing. We had one more test added to our MAP testing besides reading, math, and language. It was the science test. Language was reading through passages and Science was showing the teachers what we know and what we don't know. This is the whole point of MAP testing! While doing MAP testing, we were given ‘encouragemints’. After we had finished we were then brought outside for a break even though recess was only minutes away! But that's all I have for now and I ran out of things to say so have a good day.

Fitness

Freedom Catch

4/18/24

By Sam L.

This week in Fitness, we went to the park and played a new game. The game is called Freedom Catch, and there are two taggers at a time. Unlike a lot of our games, there are only taggers and no other roles. An example of another role is in Secret Agent Tag, where there are secret agents. The game is fun because of the new way to get back into the game after being tagged. The way you get back in is you have to catch a ball someone tosses to you. But when tossing you have to toss from one of five cones. This is harder because when people get tagged, they go to the edge of the play area. But to add to that, they only go to one edge, and the cones are in a line facing them. But the taggers can block balls and you have to toss the ball from the cone not from the cone line. You can also go behind the cone line to get the balls. Along with that if you get tagged and miss a ball, you should kick it back to the people still untagged so they can toss it to people. You also have to wait at the cone when tossing, you can't do a run by. That means a tagger can wait for you at the cones. One game we played the taggers were two upstairs kids and they had played before. It is very entertaining and there are many different strategies for the taggers and the runners. That is also why it is called Freedom Catch, because when tagged if you catch a ball you are free. We have played twice now and both times a lot of people had fun. To make it harder as well, we sometimes take away a cone or two. We sometimes start with the Freedom Tag and move to another game to play a variety of games during Fitness. That is all I have for you on Fitness this week.

Freedom Catch

By Hudson and Mati

At the park in Fitness Mr. Keenan introduced us to a new game called Freedom Catch. In Freedom Catch there are two taggers. Taggers aim to get everyone in jail before the time limit ends. The runner's objective is to throw balls from the cones at the people in jail. The people in jail must catch the ball from behind the line of the cones  for them to get back into play. Another objective of runners is not to get tagged by the taggers. One of the challenges of Freedom Catch is that the border can be really small so it can be easy to be tagged by the taggers. This is Hudson and Mati signing off.

Fitness By Scarlett

In Fitness we went to the park. The first game we played was Freedom Catch. The game is played by having a rectangle of cones (the small ones, of course)and a line of the normal-sized cones in all different colors.( I believe four of them.) So there would still be the rectangle. It's basically just a line with the space in between the rectangle on one side. On  one side there are dodgeballs for each cone and you have to throw the dodgeballs but you have to stand at the cone and  risk getting tagged  but you have to throw it. The person who's behind the rectangle has to catch it. They cannot come back into the game if they don't catch it. There are two taggers who tag people and put them in jail. If  they catch the ball from the jail, they get back into the game and that is how you play Freedom catch. The second game we played was Sharks and Minnows. We use the same rectangle of cones as we did for the Freedom game but without the other line of cones. It's a giant rectangle. The two shorter sides are the sides you run on. There are two shark taggers.  If you get tagged you turn to seaweed and help tag people. At the end everyone loses except the sharks. Yeah that's what we did in Fitness!

Restart is a book

By Freddie

Hi friends, welcome back. Today, I thought I'd do a check-in to restart the book we were reading during our school reading period. I have already talked to you guys about this book in previous articles, but we've read some more of the books, so I thought I'd give you a quick update. Does that sound good? All right, so no more waiting. Let's get right into the review of this book.

So the first thing that happened recently in the book was our main character Chase Ambrose started going to school and pretty much everyone There was scared of him.  and then he met up with his two friends that he used to bully people with, Aaron and Bear, just a great Bunch, you know, great people.  that was sarcasm that lessons by the way they're really just not fun to be around. Can always chase meets up with his friends and they do classes and stuff.  that I believe it was lunch. And Chase goes to eat lunch. and then we see this one kid who has a video camera and is filming Chase talking about how he's an idiot and calls him a knuckle dragger because she's used to bully him as well.  but anyways Chase buys a chicken breast to eat for lunch but since he still has a cast on from when he broke his arm cutting it was kind of difficult. Thing is Chase that down right in front of this one kid. it's about time I told you his name.  The kid with the camera's name is Brendan Espinoza and he is a member of the video Club. Basically, Chase tried to cut his chicken but was having a hard time and so Brendan helped him cut it.  After that, Chase thanked him and they talked for a little bit.  well, they were talking, Brendan. “thought this guy can't be so scary after you cut his chicken for him.”

Later down the line Chase starts to regain some of his memories. one of which takes place at a scrimmage between the School's football team and. Chase remembers him tearing the head off of a 4-year-old's teddy bear.  Now as you would imagine he is pretty, let's say, shocked by this memory But chooses not to think much of it.  Chase's dad really likes to yell at football teams that aren't doing what he thinks they should be doing.  Anyways, moving on, eventually Chase meets up with Brandon, and they  decide to film a stunt for a video to post on YouTube.  What Brandon would do is Ride a tricycle through a car wash with Chase filming him.  as he would imagine that wasn't the most pleasant experience at all. but the video was so funny to watch.

Moving on Chase  joins the video Club which one of the members is shoshana Weber Older sister of Joel Weber the kid that chase bullied out of town literally.  but anyway, Shoshana isn't a fan of Chase joining the video Club. But the teacher has him join anyway despite Shoshana's protests. Moving on we see Chase and Brandon in the football team's locker room. Tracy's football team players shove a kid into a locker, and basically, Chase sticks up for him, the football team is mad at him, and now the football team won't talk to him except for Aaron and Bear.  There's another girl named Kenny in the locker room. She had a huge crush on Chase but Chase before he lost his memories believed he was too good for her.  so Kenny used this opportunity to make Chase fall in love with her because she had lost his memories.  Also I think it would be good to mention that Brandon has a crush on Kenny.

Anyways that's all I got for now so yeah see you guys later  BUY!
