                                                                  We are better together

David Bowie and Wilson from Home Improvement come to visit during Sprit Week!

Math class

BY Sampson

In math class we are working on a fun project called tiny homes. Tiny homes are basically really compact homes. What we are doing is we have a list of furniture that we have to have. We draw the 3D net of the furniture. A net is basically a 3D object but all of its sides put flat. After we do that, we arrange them in different spots trying to figure out which one is most compact and best. I should also mention that this has to be suitable for living. It has a width of 7 and a length of 15 and a height of 7. We have to fit an oven, sink, toilet, shower, TV, chair, bed, couch, refrigerator, closet, and a counter. All that in so little space it's not impossible, but it's definitely difficult especially when the walls don't want to work with you.

SPIRIT WEEK

By Ewan

I’m back! Did you miss me? I’m writing this dressed as Ash Ketchum… what? WHY?!? Well, it’s very simple; it’s

SPIRIT WEEK!

Wait… you’re asking “What IS Spirit Week”?! Boy, you ask a lot of questions… Well, Spirit Week usually occurs immediately after we get back from spring break, and over the course of a week, we show our spirit. (Hey, that should be a slogan!)

Monday is Pajama Day. Putting it basically, we just wear our pajamas to school.

Tuesday is Monochrome Day, in which we wear just one color for the whole school day.

Wednesday is Dress as a Famous Person Day, in which we dress up as famous people in history.

Thursday (the day I am writing this) is Dress as a Book/Movie Character Day, which is wen we sj jssiwma tojeret bunmoloop hjsyu kd woop jsa mcu ow. (Pardon my typing, I’m wearing green gloves.) I MEANT TO SAY, which is when we dress up as famous characters from books and/or movies.

Friday is Twin Day, in which we dress up exactly like another person for the whole school half-day.

There. I covered all of Spirit Week. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go catch ‘em all.

My Archaic Handbook From 1997

We had to do a science board on birds for Top God in May. This time it’s on birds, and my topic is on flight, so I'm doing some research and found some great resources, which are in the paragraph below.

Over spring break I drove up to my grandparent's house and he gave me a Sierra Pro disc Pilot (a top of the line flight simulator in 1997). It was a CD ROM and inside the box was an almost inch thick handbook on details of flight and a lot of good material on the basics of flight like in depth information about how planes (and birds) correct for wind. There are also charts about speed and stalling as well as info on the longitudinal axis and lateral axis. Both things that apply to birds and planes, yes I researched it. It’s a science board, what else do you expect?! Of course being an archaic handbook for a computer program that goes in depth into the physics of flight it also covers the four forces, which is something that birds have to deal with too.

All about the classroom library an “Unbiased Opinion”

By: Theo

Hello thanks for tuning in. I'm here to tell you about how HARD it is to work in the classroom library. In the library there are some categories I shall tell about the difficulties of each category.

1st we have the BIG BOOKS ONLY nothing wrong there. Next up the graphic novels they used to be very unorganized but now thanks to everyone putting the young adult novels in the young adult category it is far more organized. Silly is the next category we will talk about. At the time of writing this it is the most unorganized but I hope the entire class can work together to clean it up.

Tune in next week for part two

Top God Pamphlet Contest

By Tessa

Hi! You probably read the title so you know what this is about. But you're also probably wondering what is Top God, for people who are new to this subject. And you're probably also wondering what the heck are the pamphlet contests. Well I'm here to tell you what these events are. I can't tell you much about Top God because some of it is a secret and a surprise. Kind of like a mystery box that you don't know what's inside. Now what I can tell you a bit more about is the pamphlet contest. It is split into two different contests that you can enter. The first one that I'm going to mention is the art contest. The pamphlet has art on the front. Somebody will make their art on a half piece of paper and submit it into the contest. The person who wins gets their art on a bunch of the pamphlets that get handed out to the people that come to Top God. I know I'm definitely going to enter. The next contest to talk about is the poetry contest where you can write some poetry at home or at school during writing class and submit it. It won't be on the other side of the page. What I mean by that is your full piece of paper, one half of the outside has the art and the other half has the poetry on it. You can get picked for it and then your poetry will be introduced to a bunch of different people. I don't know if I'm going to join since I'm not particularly great at poetry, but I do love it. And don't forget to come to the Top God. Hope to see you there!

That's Tessa signing out from Flamingo South. Don't forget to wear your Flamingo shirts

See you next time bye !☺️

Spirit week is a week where Crazy things happen. On the first day we wear pajamas. On the second day we wear one color. On the third day we dressed up as our favorite Celebrity. On the fourth day we dress up as our favorite book character or movie Character. And in the Final day each of us gets a partner to work with. Also it's now this school year last Electives Which are geography Garden Drawing And soccer And our parents get to help.

Science Boards

By Dylan

For Top God, the flamingo rooms are making groups and making boards in those groups. The boards are basically big essays on posterboards. Each board topic is a part of a topic that we are learning about this year: birds. There are seven groups. We are supposed to think of 20 different questions to research about the topic, then we assign individual jobs to people. We work on one of the mini topics and we will also link websites in a shared google document to help our team. Then finally we write down an essay about it. In conclusion, I AM STRESSED.

 Sharks and minnows game

There is a game we do at fitness class called sharks and minos.

The rules of the game are there are sharks that tags the minos and if you get tagged your seaweed and you tag them but you can't really move and the goal is to get to the other side without getting tagged.

Sharks and Minnows

4/4/24

By Sam L.

In Fitness this week, we have been playing Sharks and Minnows. It is the main game that you probably played as a kid. But in case you didn't, I will explain the rules of the game to you. There are two to three taggers that are “Sharks” and the rest of the kids are “Minnows.” The “Minnows” try to get to the other side of the play area. The play area is usually just a rectangle and you have to get to the other side of the rectangle. If you leave the rectangle, you are out just like if a “Shark'' had tagged you. Your goal is to go from one side to the other as many times as possible. If you are tagged, you become “Seaweed”. If you are “Seaweed” you can't move and try to tag “Minnows” that try to get past you. We added a rule that if you become “Seaweed” it doesn’t count if you tag people the same round you got tagged. We sometimes play on the long side of the rectangle and sometimes the short side. Our play area is the parking lot, so there isn't too much space to run. We usually have three “Sharks'' when we are playing on the long side of the rectangle. We don’t really have three “Sharks” on the short side except once when we had to go in really soon. That causes the games to not last over five to six minutes if we don't have to go in soon. It has been very exciting to play and I hope we continue to play. That is all I have for you this week.

Sharks and Minnows

By Hudson and Riley

Fitness there is a new game. Well, it's not that new. It's new to Fitness, at least this year. It is Sharks and Minnows. One of the really fun parts about Sharks and Minnows is how it works. There are two to three sharks and everybody else are minnows. There is an area we must run through before the sharks tag us. Anybody who they tag becomes a seaweed. Those seaweeds are a massive threat. They cannot walk but they can wave their arms “tendrils of seaweed” all over the place and if you touch them you're tagged, meaning sometimes there can be a massive wall of seaweed. The seaweed is a minor threat compared to the sharks, however. The sharks can run around anywhere in the tag area. If they tag you, you’re seaweed. They can, if they're being brilliant, tag you at just the right moments to make it impossible to escape. The more rounds the minnows survive, the harder it is because more minnows get tagged each round which makes more seaweed, making it harder to get to the other side. Being a shark is fun. Being a minnow is also fine. Try not to be a seaweed. Being a seaweed can be fun, though being a seaweed comes with some very hard parts of the game, such as maybe you will get steamrolled. Even though there are some parts of sharks and minnows that can challenge you, it is always a ton of fun and it basically never gets boring.

Also, here's a pun to close out: Where do sharks cook their food? In the minnow-wave.

 Sharks and Minnows

by Mati

In Fitness, we are playing a game called Sharks and Minnows. Two or three players are picked to be sharks and the rest of the players are minnows. The sharks stand in the middle and the minnows are behind cones. When the whistle is blown the minnows try to run to the other side. If a minnow gets tagged they become seaweed. The role of the seaweed is to tag the minnows. But the seaweed can only stand in one place and use their arms to tag the minnows. If a seaweed tags a minnow that minnow is now a seaweed. The goal is to be the last minnow alive. This is Mati signing out.

Top God

By Rory and Freddie

We've been doing science recently and we're starting to do science for the top god gallery. The top God Gallery is where everyone from every class makes a bunch of artwork and science work and for the 8th graders Greek myth work to show. For the flamingos this means making a science board poster using all the things we've learned about birds in science Into a giant trifold. We also get to make art for it which means we get to make any form of art we know. The 8th graders are the main event of Top God they're there to show off their speeches and give a compelling argument on why they're god should be the ruler of this school. Top god helps the eighth graders prepare for high school with speeches and poster designing. There are also ambassador awards for the ambassadors the awards are top ambassador most helpful ambassador and top tour.

Bridges MS: Top God

By Ben

In this trimester we are getting really close to the end of the school year. We are starting to wrap things up and finish up projects. Whether it's painting the last stroke on our canvas in art, or running our last dash in fitness, a lot of things are starting to close up. Here at Bridges we are doing just that, as it happens to be the time. However, that still doesn't mean we are not starting something else. At Bridges it is time for the eighth graders to present what they have been preparing for all year long: Top God! Top God is where we get to elect the god (specifically, one of the Greek gods) to rule over our school next year. The eighth graders prepare campaigns and slogans and most importantly, the god that they will promote. All of them take turns to do their speech and present their posters at the podium. All of the art and showcases are created by the wonderful students of Bridges. Pretty much everyone in the school has contributed to the divine election: Top God!

Pamphlet Contest for Top God

Sam S.

4/4/24

We haven’t written a website in a while but here is one fresh from the brain of Sam S. Hi and welcome to website Thursday! Today we talked about the pamphlets for Top God. Every year, the flamingos and ravens get to enter a contest. One option is a poem, and one option is an art piece for the cover of the pamphlet. I am going to enter the contest for the art piece. The art piece is going to be finished in black and white, meaning your drafts have to be with pencil. The size of the art piece is half a sheet of paper. The person who wins the contest gets to have their art and/or poem given out to all the people who come to the Top God event. You can do whatever you want for the design of the art piece, as long as it says Top God, the year, and either Spring Showcase or Showcase. I am very excited about this year’s Top God. It’s going to be a good one.

Reading: Restart

by Daniel

Recently we have been reading a book called Restart by Gordon Korman. The book is about a boy named Chase Ambrose. He loses all of his memories by taking a swan dive off of his roof and we had learned that he had been doing it since he was around 6 years old. He goes to school where he meets his friends Aaron and Bear, but Chase has no memories. Because of his amnesia, he does not know who Aaron and Bear are. We learned that the two of them were his best friends and in the past Chase was a bully. The principal talks with him and tells him that so many people would want a second chance and want to be in his situation. Eventually, he meets Brenda and Brenda helps him cut his chicken because his arm is in a sling. Right now in the book, Chase remembers even more. In the beginning, his only memory is of a girl in a dress and Chase used to be a football player but because of doctor's orders, he is no longer on the team. And he eventually ends up joining the video Club. The teacher assigned him to taking recordings of every sports team and getting some interviews. But that is all I have for now

             New Electives

I’m ready for the new electives. They start tomorrow. They are Soccer with Mr. Keenan and Mrs. Jex, Gardening with Ms. Pritchard, Geography with Mr. E and Drawing with Mrs. Quinter. My first choice is soccer. My second choice is gardening. These are the last electives of this year. They will choose new ones next year. I hope next year they have a World Cup elective. But I really want a dunk tank elective with the teachers!

Sasquatch: The New Novel

By Madelyn

In Reading, we are doing a novel study. The name of the book is called Sasquatch. The author’s name is Rowan Smith. He grew up in Portland. So most of his books are based in Portland. The book Sasquatch is just one of his many books. The main character of the book is Dylan and his parents, Mr. Hickock and Miss Hickock. His mom was studying to be a doctor when Dylan was young. His mom quit her job to take care of him. And now that Dylan is a teenager, his mom is going to be a doctor. Right now she is on a big trip that is five months long. Dylan's dad is working with a team to hunt down Sasquatch or Bigfoot is also the other name. So far they have only mentioned one store and that is the famous Powell's Bookstore. One of the other big characters is Mr. Johnson. He is helping Dylan and his dad stop the Bigfoot team from hunting Bigfoot because Dylan’s dad does not want Bigfoot hunted. Mrs. Hickock is still not back. We are currently on chapter 10. We have so much to keep going. This is Madelyn signing out from Flamingo South.

   Fitness

                                                By Adam

Hello folks, today's topic will be fitness, more specifically Sharks and Minnows and Fitness. “Sorry this program is not in color” Infomercial not included. Now, typically, I'll talk a lot about relay runs, but today a rare occurrence like a solar eclipse is taking place. I will be talking about the game Sharks and Minnows. Hopefully, a Gasp Rises through the Crowd. Or lack of. The game has a simple concept, preferably two, although many upon many Sharks. Although just like Smelt fishing. Many more minnows. Preferably Emphasis on preferably. If you've ever heard the terminology Fold a paper like a hot dog, will you want to be going a longer distance On quote The Run. Which consists of a Mad Dash to the Finish Line without getting tagged. Although you might be wondering, Adam, what happens if you've been tagged? Well, my dear friend The answer to that is well the following. You become seaweed kelp, whatever you want to call it. and gasp gasp Now you are assisting the sharks in atrocity, if I do say so myself. As each round goes by, these walls of kelp or seaweed grow and grow, making the arduous process of crossing more and more difficult. Like swimming across the Pacific Ocean. Already as arduous task. Depending on the arrangement of well minnows tagged, it can make the task easier or harder in the Rare scenario That There is a straight line occasionally and your best bet is to surrender. but I'm not one for treason. In that scenario you're only Hope is a  charge The likelihood of getting past is Slim although better than standing there Hopelessly staring at the wall that Tower is over you. Or so it feels or may well be. For all I know that wall is 100 ft tall. yet again emphasis on Or so may it feel. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my rant. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you again, hopefully see you next week.

Language Arts (Reading Class with Miss Hofeld)

By Abby

I don't know why Reading class is called Language Arts because we're not learning English and we're not doing art class. (Art class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays and PE/Fitness is on Mondays and Wednesdays.) But I call it Reading class because it makes more sense and it sounds more professional in my ears. I was formally in Miss Pritchard’s Reading class, but I felt like I was ready to move on to the next level of reading, which is Miss Hofeld's Reading group. So I talked to Mr. Keenan and Miss Pritchard about how I felt and I advocated for myself to move on to the next reading group level. Fun fact about myself: Did you know that “Advocate” is one of my favorite words? It took a while to get me moved up but eventually it did happen and I managed to get into Miss Hofeld's Reading group. The book that we are doing for read-aloud is called Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. Unbroken is a biography of World War II hero Louis Zamperini, a former Olympic track star who survived a plane crash in the Pacific Theater. He spent 47 days drifting on a raft, and then survived more than two and a half years as a prisoner of war in three brutal Japanese prisoner-of-war camps. And the book that we are reading individually but sometimes as a group is Restart by Gordon Korman. When a fall from a roof wipes out Chase Ambrose's memory, he has to restart his life. Upon returning to school, Chase is puzzled by the differences in the way that others treat him. Some are happy to see him while others steer clear of him. Can Chase figure out who he was before? I've already read the book Restart by Gordon Korman but Miss Pritchard and Miss Hofeld have sworn me to secrecy because they don't want me to spoil the book for the rest of the reading group. But I haven't read the book Unbroken and I switched to Miss Hofeld’s reading group in the middle of the semester. You're wondering what the word semester means it means I joined the reading group in the middle of the year. Other than that we should do a review and a summary and blah blah blah… I hope you have a good day bye!

       My favorite words:
