Lincoln Elementary offers a comprehensive English-Language Arts program, Journeys, a research-based curriculum developed by literacy experts and backed by proven results. Journeys features concrete anchor texts that challenge students, lesson plans that allow teachers to target the needs of all students, and assessments and digital tools that help track classroom progress. Special Education and Title I programs utilize the intervention materials provided by the Journey’s curriculum.
In the area of Math, Lincoln Elementary uses two curriculum programs. At the kindergarten level, teachers use Math Expressions, a comprehensive program that offers new ways to teach and learn mathematics. It emphasizes in-depth mathematics through real world problem situations, conceptual language and Math Talk to help students build mathematical ideas that make sense to them.
In first and second grades, students use My Math curriculum. My Math is built around rigorous standards and mathematical practices, and delivers an engaging student experience fully built on focus, coherence and rigor.
Science and Social Studies are integrated throughout core curricular areas, and are enhanced through field trips, STEM activities, community partners, and hands-on learning activities. Through the Education Service Unit, ESU 5, students participate in Distance-Learning opportunities. Holidays and special dates such as Constitution Day and Veteran’s Day are recognized with a variety of learning opportunities.
Behavior curriculums include the PBiS, Positive Behavior Intervention Support, model to teach replacement skills, encourage a positive classroom climate, and empowering students to take responsibility for their behaviors. Additional social skills tools used may include BoysTown, Love and Logic, Superflex, Zones of Regulation, and Second Steps curriculum.
At Lincoln Elementary, we believe that children learn through play. Staff offer developmentally appropriate movement activities and brain breaks throughout the school day to engage and enhance learning experiences. Technology is also a contributor to student learning in all subject areas. Students have access to computer lab, Chrome books, and iPads. Students participate in Physical Education, Guidance, Music, Library, and Art lessons weekly.
