Beatrice Community Preschool will use The Creative Curriculum System for Preschool. This is a research-based system available to preschool programs that provides a comprehensive collection of resources. It is a project-based early childhood curriculum designed to foster the development of the whole child through teacher-led small and large group activities. Its underlying philosophy draws from Jean Piaget's work on cognitive development, Erik Erikson's stages of socio-emotional development, and accepted theories of how children learn best. It takes advantage of children’s natural curiosity, and uses real-life experiences to teach students, based on the idea that students are better able to retain knowledge through personal experience with their environment/play, and analytical thinking. Weekly themes and daily activities help structure what the children learn.
All classrooms will follow the district developed learning target, which were developed from Teaching Strategies GOLD outcomes. The targets have been broken up into 3’s and 4’s objectives.
Within the classroom, all students will be exposed to a hands-on play based environment. Planned play will be the central part of our program that will be infused with a language rich, math exposed social emotional guided environment. All classrooms will use the pyramid model for their social emotional framework. Teacher will also have 2nd step curriculum available to aide in the teaching of social emotional skills and development.
