The Caribbean

For the second half of the third nine weeks we cover Central America and the Caribbean. Because it does not encompass as much land as the previous three countries or South America, and their proximity to each other, we combine them. For the Caribbean specifically we look at the breakdown of the islands and which ones are countries and which are not. We also have a Caribbean Tourism project. This is one of my favorite assignments of the year! Students will be in groups creating a tourism based business at a location in the Caribbean. The creative mind of a 6th grader is a fun thing to watch, the ideas they come up with are amazing! It also serves as a valuable lesson in economics.
