Third graders are beginning their research unit of frogs. In this unit students will use literacy skills to become experts - people who use reading, writing, listening and speaking to build and share deep knowledge about a topic. The guiding questions for this unit are: 1. How does an author engage a reader in a narrative? 2. How do experts build knowledge and share expertise about a topic? 3. How do frogs survive? The text students will be reading include:

Math

Students should work on:

  • Addition and subtraction facts up to and within 20.

  • Skip counting by 5s, 10s & 100s

  • Memorizing multiplication and division facts within 100

  • Real world multiplication and division problems.

    • For example, Juice boxes come in packages of 6. If we buy 3 packages, hwo many juice boxes will we have in all?

  • Telling time and solving elapsed time problems

    • For example, “If Juan’s karate class begins at 5:15 and lasts for an hour and a half, what time will his karate class end?
