My name is Major Tommy Wright and I'm the Senior Marine Instructor for the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (MCJROTC) at Jeremiah E. Burke High School. I entered active duty in the United States Marine Corps in 1988 as an Infantryman. Early in my career, I served on Security Force duty in Adak, Alaska where I guarded nuclear weapons and deployed to Iraq in 1991 as part of a Kurdish Refugee humanitarian assistance mission. In 1992, I temporarily left active duty and entered the Marine Corps Reserves. In 1996, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and in History from Wofford College, in Spartanburg, SC before re-entering active duty. Other highlights of my career include Commanding a Transportation Company which deployed to Iraq in 2005, Commanding the Military Entrance Processing Station in Albany, NY, and serving as the Inspector-Instructor for the Marine Corps Reserve unit in Providence, RI. I retired from the Marine Corps after completing 24 years of service and assumed my current position in the Fall of 2014.
My hobbies include weight lifting, running, hiking, long road trips, history and camping with my kids.
What I love most about teaching is mentoring our students and preparing them for their future.
