Hello Class of 2021!
My name is Katherine Petta. I am in my first year as the Senior Academy Team Leader. Prior to this position, I was an English teacher at the Burke for 15 years. During most of that time I taught English 12 and AP English Literature and Composition.
I attended Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. There I earned a BA in English and Sociology. I then went to Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA. and earned a M.Ed in Secondary English Education. After a few years I went back to school and earned an Ed.D. in the Leadership in Urban Schools program at UMASS Boston. In my spare time I love playing in the park with my 11 year old Chocolate Lab, Laila.
What I love most about teaching is the freedom to be creative and design learning experiences that are project based and allow each student to pursue their own interests. In my new role, my goal is to help support each of you throughout your final year of high school at the Burke as you work to balance your current academic responsibilities and figure out your path for the future.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me for additional support whenever you need!
