Major John Moore has been a Marine Corps JROTC Leadership Teacher at The Burke since 2017. He earned his BA in Political Science from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in 1997 and his Master of Business Administration from Boston University in 2003.
During his time in the military he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School, Defense Acquisitions University, and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. He served on Active Duty for 20 years, retiring in May 2017. His leadership billets included Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Aide-de-Camp for a Commanding General, Battalion Operations Officer, Battalion Executive Officer, and Battalion Commanding Officer where he led over 1,100 Marines and sailors. He served three combat tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.
He traveled the world and was involved in several Humanitarian operations after natural disasters. He received over eight meritorious and commendatory personal decorations during his career to include a life-saving medal and several combat decorations. Major Moore also serves as the Director of Veterans Services for the town of Millis, MA.
