BEES Coaches will be offering pedagogical professional development district wide in collaboration with the science department, to all BEES teachers, and to the individual schools that they are working with. Coaches will use input from teachers, principals and observations to determine individual school needs, and work together to determine the best method of delivery.
Below you will find some of the district and BEES specific pedagogical sessions that will be offered:
BEES Coaches will work with classroom teachers and science specialists to explore digital resources and instructional strategies that will support standards aligned science learning in a remote or hybrid setting. This includes online tools, and strategies that promote student engagement, equity, collaboration, and student discourse in a virtual setting. The following tools & resources will be discussed: Pear Deck, Flip Grid, JamBoard, Zoom Chats & breakout rooms, Padlet, Digital Notebook.
This presentation will guide teachers in how to facilitate student discourse among their students, both in-person and within the virtual classroom. Participants will be provided with the purpose and rationale for all students to engage in science discourse, identify where science discourse is occurring in their classrooms, examine scaffolds and protocols to facilitate respectful discourse around content and phenomena, and understand how these scaffolds and protocols facilitate respectful discourse around content to show their understanding of science through conversation.
Teachers will learn what Peardeck is and how to use it to create interactive lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners. This tool helps to support equity and social emotional learning in the classroom, as well as support ELs with the WIDA standards.
Teachers will have the opportunity to learn about the FOSS remote teaching tools and how to apply them within the context of the first module they will be teaching. The session will begin with a common Earth Science mini-lesson followed by break out rooms separate by grade level where teachers will explore and begin to apply the remote learning resources specific to their first Earth Science FOSS module.
