Q. What kind of credit do I receive for taking AFJROTC?
A. Overall, JROTC is an elective program. However, depending on the specific class a cadet enrolls in, they can earn PE, Health or Elective credit if they have not already completed their PE and/or Health requirements.

Q. Will I have to join the military if I participate in AFJROTC?
A. There is absolutely no military service obligation for participating in AFJROTC.


Q. Are haircuts mandatory for AFJROTC cadets?
A. Yes, the hair standards for cadets are exactly the same as those for regular Air Force personnel. Grooming standards are explained in class and are detailed in the Cadet Guide or Uniform and Awards Pamphlet.

Q. If I decide to join AFJROTC do I need to wear a uniform?
A. Yes, uniforms are a required part of the AFJROTC program. Cadets will be issued (free of charge) all required uniform items and will be taught how to wear the uniform properly and with pride. Uniform wear day is usually Thursdays.


Q. What do you learn in AFJROTC?

A. AFJROTC is both a class and an after school program. During class, cadets learn about the history of aviation, aviation science, space science, military customs, followership, leadership and much more. However, more importantly, cadets learn life skill such as responsibilities, excellent work habits, social skills, teamwork, service to their community and much more.


Q. Do Haughton cadets volunter in the community?

A. Yes. For example:

  • Color Guard details for school and community events

  • Football game press box operations

  • School event sound, microphone and slide show support

  • Stadium clean-up

  • Roadside clean via the Adopt-A-Highway program (N. Hazel St from E. McKinley Ave to Hwy 3227)

  • Red River Revel Kid Zone support

  • HHS Blood Drives

  • Campus beautification projects

  • Local cemetery clean-up

  • Food Bank support

  • Visits to the Northwest Louisiana Veterans' Home

  • Plan and work Haughton parades and participate in Shreveport/Bossier area parades

  • Veterans Day programs at HMS and HHS (alternate every year)

  • Cadets who decide to enlist in the military do so at an advanced rank. Usually one or two stripes (meaning you make more money...worth around $300/month additional pay)

  • AFJROTC is FUN! We have many teams you can join (even competition teams) such as Marksmanship, Rocketry, and Color Guard, and more

  • We take several field and competition trips each year

  • We are actively engaged in our community
