Clubs & Teams

Academic Team

One of the main goals of the JROTC Academic team is to prepare for the Academic Bowl and may have an opportunity to compete in the Academic Championship in Washington, DC. This team is designed to prepare students for state exit/graduation exams as well as college entrance exams (SAT and ACT), mix of JROTC curriculum as well as English, math, and science in each level of the competition. A few questions about current events are also included focusing on national and international news, particularly international relations, politics, business, and science.

Color Guard Team

The Color Guard is a group of four cadets that present the United States and Air Force flags at games and ceremonies. The Color Guard participates in numerous ceremonies in support of the Shreveport and Bossier community throughout the year. Color Guard is undoubtable the most visible AFJROTC team.

Cyber Defense Club

Cyber Defense meets on Mondays, 2:30 - 4:00 in the library to practice for the Cyber Patriot competitions throughout the year. Cyber Defense uses systems such as Windows 10, Server, Ubuntu and Cisco Networking. Competing with Cyber can give you an opportunity to get a scholarship and it helps people learn skills for computer jobs in the future.

Drill Team

Drill team meets every Monday in order to practice for upcoming drill competitions. There are around 6-10 drill competitions each school year, and the team tries to go to all of them. Cadets are taught advanced drill earlier than the rest of their peers, and make great improvements with their own drill knowledge whilst on the team.

Kitty Hawk Air Society

Kitty Hawk Air Society is a select group of cadets that must be invited before joining. Selected cadets must have and maintain at least a 3.25 GPA. Kitty Hawk members tutor fellow cadets within the program. These cadets help improve other cadets’ knowledge, and their goal is to help them not only pass the class, but understand the lesson.

Marksmanship Team

A sport skill where a rifle is aimed, controlled and fired so as to consistently hit a distant, difficult target. Marksmanship teaches safety through rules and responsibility. It also develops life skills likes discipline, self-control and emotional control while also enhancing performance skills- concentration, goal setting and teamwork. Marksmanship is popular, fun and uniquely challenging.

Model Aviation & Rocketry Club/Team

The model rocketry program provides an opportunity for cadets to learn the basic principles of aerospace rocketry. During the program, the cadets get the opportunity to design, build and launch model rockets and perform in appointed team positions. Model rockets built use safe engines. Successful completion of program requirements makes cadets eligible for the model rocket badge.

Orienteering Team

Orienteering is the sport of navigating a course with nothing but a map, a compass, and your brain. Orienteering is to teach cadets a lifelong skill which can support many leisure activities including, hiking, fishing, hunting, exploring, geo-cashing, camping, biking, and physical fitness to name a few. It also provides the cadet with a sense of accomplishment, adventure, comradery, and teamwork.

Raider Team

Formerly, PT and Spec Ops, the Raider team meets on Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30 to learn survival and physical training concepts, apply those concepts and practice to participate in competitions. During the practices cadets will perform push-ups, sit-ups, mile run and other exercises such as, pull-ups (if required for certain competitions). Cadets and be apart of the Raider competition teams if they want and are selected to compete or they can be a general member to get learn survival techniques and get into shape and stay fit.

Sabre Team

Sabre Team meets during the fall term of school for Homecoming. Practices will are TBD, but usually on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30. Practices include presenting the Sabre for the Homecoming court. It is a great club involving communication and teamwork.

Sound Team

Sound team doesn’t have a regular meeting schedule. Cadets are selected to become members as Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors by the commander and/or deputy to work upcoming events. When sound team members work during events they manage the microphones, speakers and screen in the Boys Gym, video record football games, and/or work in the stadium press box operating the scoreboard and sound for sporting events.
