Husky Singers And Jazz Band

Husky Singers had a longer time frame having from friday the 23rd, with a deadline of the 29th of september. They also had the bonus of doing their audition through video, instead of in person like the Jazz Band.

A survey was conducted to learn more about students views and participation in these extracurricular activities. A survey conducted found that about 6% of 8th grade students tried out for Jazz Band, while almost double that tried out for Husky Singers, sitting at 10.4%. The survey also showed that 40% of the students weren’t aware of the tryouts, and 46% of students we’re aware of because of either a friend or their music teacher.

Mrs. Stordalen (Choir and Husky Singers teacher) and Mrs. Halverson (Band and Jazz Band Teacher) were interviewed to get an insight on the teachers motives and deeper inside these musical activities.

But why do this?

“Jazz Band gives students new opportunities to play their instruments with a group even more outside of school, and gives opportunities for new challenges and instruments not normally available,''said Mrs. Halverson in an interview. Mrs. Stordalen had similar answers to the questions as Mrs. Halverson.

Mrs. Stordalen said she’s excited to perform in front of people with the amazing group of singers that they’ve put together.

These hand picked singers and musicians will be performing throughout the school year. Tons of choices for concerts will be available, since choir, band, orchestra, and their extracurricular counterparts will be performing throughout the year.
