Academic Eligibility
Per the NIAA, In order for a student-athlete to be academically eligible for athletic participation they must:
Have completed at least two units of credit in at least four classes in the semester or quarter immediately preceding participation. View the relevant NIAA regulation HERE.
Have held a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the semester or quarter immediately preceding participation. View the relevant NIAA regulation HERE.
Receive a passing grade in each class in which they enroll during the season for the sanctioned sport. View the relevant NIAA regulation HERE.
The Athletic Department will conduct periodic grade checks to determine eligibility and inform coaches accordingly. See Grade Checks section below.
Grade Checks
The Athletic Department will conduct grade checks as follows to determine eligibility, and inform coaches accordingly.
GPA checks will be conducted at the end of each quarter and semester. Student-athletes who have less than a 2.0, who did not earn a minimum of two units of credit, and/or who failed more than one class will be ineligible for participation for the first three weeks of the ensuing quarter/semester. These criteria will be rechecked at three weeks. If at that time the student has not raised his or her grades above the 2.0 requirement, still has a failing grade, and/or multiple failing grades, he or she will be ineligible to participate in athletic competition for an additional three weeks.
Grade checks will be conducted every three weeks throughout the semester. Students with a failing grade will be placed on probation for one week. Grades will generally be rechecked on the Monday of the probationary week, and if a student has still has a failing grade, the student will become ineligible for the period beginning on Monday and ending on the Saturday of that week. Grade checks will be conducted each week until a student becomes eligible.
Ineligible student-athletes should attend practices unless coaches and teachers determine the time would be better spend working on academics.
Ineligible student-athletes cannot miss any school to go to athletic events.
Attendance
Per the Student-Parent Handbook there is a policy for a student-athlete regarding his or her ability to participate in practices and contests subsequent to missing instructional time during the school day.
All student-athletes must be present in school for the entire school day or be excused by an Administrator in order to compete in any game or meet. Any student-athlete who is not present the entire school day on a Friday will be ineligible to compete in a game or meet on Saturday.
In order to participate in a practice, a student-athlete must be present for at least six periods on an eight period day and three periods on a Block Day.
Absences related to school-sponsored activities (i.e. Quest/Kairos) will be dealt with on a case-to-case basis. Events such as these are supported and encouraged by the school.
Transfer Student Eligibility
Per NIAA regulation transfer students are ineligible for athletic competition for 180 days. However, ineligibility can be waived in certain circumstances.
Transfer students should register for their sport in RMA/Aktivate to begin the transfer process that will walk them through their options.
