Submit an overnight trip proposal to the Athletic Director, preferably at the beginning of each school year or at the beginning of the semester to the planned trip. The Athletic Director must approve all California/Nevada overnight trip proposals in advance.
The coach should prepare a written itinerary for review by Administration. An itinerary should include, as closely as possible, a daily schedule of activities from departure to arrival back at the school site.
The coach is responsible for having emergency contacts and “Consent to Treat” for all participants. Use RMA or see Athletic Secretary to obtain these.
Take the phone numbers of school administrators on the trip.
Provide chaperones with a description of their duties and review with chaperones and student-athletes all the rules, regulations, and responsibilities. Review with student-athletes the consequences for illegal behavior. Particular emphasize expellable/police custody offenses; i.e., causing serious physical injury, selling/possession of a controlled substance, robbery or extortion, possession of any firearm, explosive, knife, or dangerous object.
Make arrangements for and follow through with a luggage and equipment check prior to departure.
Prepare a completed “Student Participating in School Related Activity” form, listing all students taking the trip. This is to be given to the school attendance office.
Remind students to get homework for trips of two or more school days.
