Dear Students of East Middle School,
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year where we are looking forward to working with you and all the adults in the building to make sure that Everyone Achieves Success Together. We are looking forward to another exciting and successful school year!
We will be implementing school-wide environmental changes to help foster positive behaviors in the students, faculty, and staff of East Middle School. We will be using a framework called PBIS, Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports. Through the implementation of PBIS at East Middle School, we will create and sustain a positive learning environment in which all students can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. At East Middle School the focus is on teaching and encouraging appropriate behavior in all areas of the school, concentrating on the instruction of the 3Rs: Respect, Responsibility, and Readiness. Students who are respectful, responsible, and ready act appropriately so they maximize their learning opportunities. Students will continue to be encouraged through positive acknowledgements when these expected behaviors are demonstrated.
As you move throughout the school, you will see the expectations posted in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, locker rooms, offices, the cafeteria, and other locations. We’ve included the Building Wide Behavior Matrix and other materials in this handbook for you to reference. You will be taught the behaviors that will help you, and all of East Middle School, find success together.
We look forward to a great and rewarding school year for everyone. We thank you in advance for your support and effort in this process.
Sincerely,
East Middle PBIS Team
