Supplemental Resources & Student Data Privacy

supplemental resources & student data privacy

All supplemental resources used by teachers & students in Billings Public Schools need to be reviewed and vetted by the Supplemental Use Committee, as per Board Policy 2310. In addition, BPS privacy and data policies ensure that all PK-12 students are protected.

process for requesting a resource or tool

The committee currently meets once a month and requests will be reviewed as received. We recommend reviewing the list of approved resources to see if something already approved will suit your needs. If you would like to request to use a resource or tool in your classroom that is not listed on the above document, please use the following guidelines:

K-12 Requests

In an effort to keep student data safe and abide by the requirements associated with district policy 2310 and Montana State Law (House Bill 745), the Supplemental Use Committee has put in place a process that all classroom apps and resources must be vetted through.

Guidelines for paid resources

Any paid apps, subscriptions or non-digital resources will not be purchased by the district. If there is a resource that you would like to use on the approved list, you will need to contact your administrator and ask if there are funds available to purchase the resource, app or subscription for use in your classroom. No paid apps will be purchased or installed onto your class iPads without authorization from your administrator.

technology support for supplemental digital resources

If you or your school purchase a supplemental program or app for use in your classroom, please do not expect district-level technology support for utilizing this tool (i.e. importing data, helping to set up, providing training or troubleshooting). Techs will help when possible, but primary curriculum and resources will take precedence.
