Materials needed: dry thyme leaves, mortar and pestle, glass vials with caps, water, organic solvent mixture (25% ethyl acetate : 75% heptane), heptane
Materials needed: dry thyme leaves, mortar and pestle, glass vials with caps, water, organic solvent mixture (25% ethyl acetate : 75% heptane), heptane
Crush a small layer of dry thyme leaves in a mortar using a pestle.
Divide the crushed leaves roughly evenly between three glass vials.
Use a Pasteur pipette to add 1 mL of solvent to each glass vial (use water for one of the samples, organic solvent mixture for another sample, and heptane for the remaining sample).
Cap each vial and shake gently.
