Please let us know ASAP if you will not make it to work due to an illness or injury. Standard procedure is to call your home unit at least 2 hours before your scheduled shift (see contacts page) and clearly leave a voicemail with your NAME, SHIFT TIME, AND DATE.
Always follow up with an e-mail to diningstudentsupervisors@berkeley.edu with the subject line "[UNIT] Calling in Sick" to notify us of your absence.
You know weeks ahead when your midterms, finals, quizzes, and other special events (vacations, retreats, club events, etc.) will be, so let us know at least TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE if you are requesting to be excused from any shift(s).
We do require that you try to find a substitute, so talk to your coworkers and use the trade board on WhenToWork.

For permanent shift changes, you will usually be required to work your current scheduled shifts for 2 weeks to allow us time to find a replacement. Certain accommodations may be made on a case by case basis.
Be ready to provide us with your new class schedule from CalCentral and a new availability sheet.

We are using the flex shift system in order to effectively help you find coverage when you need it. If for some reason you do not have a designated day please let us know. This tool is used in order to help things running smoothly for you and your fellow coworkers.
Don't be scared, this doesn't mean that we will call you last minute, but it does mean that we will get in contact with you 5-7 days in advance and arrange for you to come in for your flex shift.
