"Not Enough"

by Eva Olivero

I feel like “I love you” isn’t enough

I would run through fire and back for you

Maybe I should act a bit more tough

But I keep on running back to you

You lift me up and tell me kind words

You praise me, I am loved

You sing me songs better than the birds

I would give you all my blood

I give you food and music and love

I give you a warm embrace

I give you my heart on a silver platter

And you stare at it with disgrace

Because to you the food was way too cold

And the water was too warm

And to me, our love is painted in flowers of gold

But to you, it’s an ugly storm

The back of your hand slaps across my face

Now my face is red

Tears fill up my eyes, I begin to cry

Over something that you said

My hands are shaking

And It feels like my earth has shattered

Your voice is loud your screaming now

And my mind is clearly scattered

Saying “I love you” isn’t enough

Or is it just not enough for you

I wish your hand would graze me gently

Because that would be something new

This isn’t love, I realize now

My heart should have not been yours

So I stabbed you in the heart

Now there is blood on my hands

And our love is torn

I smile a large grin

And my heart is tough

Because saying “I love you” just wasn’t enough
