"Daydreaming"

by James Cayetano

My dearest  Anis,

Why do you work yourself so hard?

When you talk with your friends, you seem at peace

But when you see me, you look away with disregard.

You return to your work with haste,

From dawn till dusk,

You seem to forget that you might’ve been chased,

Leaving your workplace as empty as a husk.

You look my way with your eyes wide with fear,

Walking away at a brisk pace,

You break into a sprint as around each corner I appear,

Until you tumble down in place.

I watch shrouded in black,

You look up with wide eyes,

You hear me say that energy is what you lack,

As you wake up in bed at early sunrise.
