We have hit the ground running this term with the introduction of our new central idea: the choices governments make can influence the lives of future generations. To explore this, the students investigated various forms of governance and compared how they function in the real world. Mr. Theobald brought these concepts to life with a hands-on playground design challenge, where each team was assigned a specific leadership style—Democracy, Monarchy, or Dictatorship—to get their plans approved. While the groups found the restrictive systems quite a challenge to navigate, the experience led to a profound reflection. Ultimately, the children concluded that the agency and collaboration found in a democracy are far more rewarding than the rigid structures of more traditional systems.
In our RE sessions, we have been exploring the theme of commitment and what it looks like in our daily lives. The students reflected on their dedication to sports teams and their aspirations for the future, but it was their writing on family that truly stood out. These reflections highlighted the thoughtful, balanced, and caring nature of our cohort, showing a deep appreciation for the people who support them. Looking ahead, we are thrilled to carry this momentum into next week as we begin our new writing unit inspired by The Hunger Games. The children are eager to dive into this dystopian world and sharpen their narrative voices!
