This week, we kicked off our brand-new Central Idea: "Building relationships helps communities grow and thrive." The children have already shown great insight into what it means to be part of a group. We spent time discussing the various communities we belong to—from our small classroom family to our local neighbourhood and beyond.
In Geography, we put our map skills to the test! The children did a fantastic job labelling maps of the United Kingdom, identifying the four countries and their capital cities. We are becoming quite the experts at navigating Great Britain.
Meanwhile, in Science, we have been observing the world around us through the lens of the four seasons. We discussed the "amazing discoveries" we make as the weather changes—from the first buds of spring to the crisp leaves of autumn. The children are learning to identify the unique characteristics of each season and how nature transforms throughout the year.
To support our learning this week, you might want to ask your child: "Which communities do we belong to as a family?" or see if they can spot any signs of the current season while you are out for a walk!
