Year One

We've had a truly brilliant week in Year 1, tackling some challenging new concepts with such enthusiasm! The children have been working incredibly hard in Maths, diving into a tricky addition concept and showing great resilience! They have successfully applied their new skills to read and solve simple word problems. This is a big step, as it requires them not just to calculate, but also to understand the language of maths and decide which operation to use. Well done, everyone! In Science, we've become budding material scientists! We have started a fascinating new topic all about materials and their properties. The children are doing a great job distinguishing between an object (like a chair or a ball) and the material it is made from (such as wood or plastic). We've been exploring and describing properties like:

• Hard / Soft

• Smooth / Rough

• Stretchy

• See-through

Ask your child to look around your home and tell you an object and the properties of the material it's made from—they might surprise you!
