Reception

Term 1: Storyland Problem Solvers are busy helping some well-known characters from the much loved Eric Carle and Jolly Pocket Postman books.

With a focus on the feelings of others, we give advice to a sad chameleon who has got rather mixed up, a sad sloth, a busy spider and some lost ducks. The Jolly Postman calls our Storyland Problem Solvers' office to see if we can help during the busy festive period. We work out how to set up a post office and send some fragile parcels.

Term 2: Storyland Problem Solvers continue their good work, this time helping characters from traditional tales from the UK and beyond As well as exploring feelings we also explore map-making for Hansel and Gretel, write giant letters to a giant (Jack's friend!) to find out how we can help, look at similarities and differences between our local environment and contrasting environments as we visit our village church and look at churches in the Serbian tale 'The Golden Slipper', and the similarities and differences between a walk in our village to Handa's walk as we work out how to stop the animals eating the fruit from Handa's basket.

Term 3: 'The Enchanted Wood' offers opportunities to meet some interesting characters. But what do these folk need to think about as they visit the magical lands at the top of the Faraway Tree? And can we help make a clock friend for Silky's lonely clock, and set-up and restock a Magical Emporium after the goblins took much of the goods (writing spells, making and labelling potions, measuring ingredients)? There will be a focus on exploring past and present, including finding out abou significan tpeople from the past.
