Men's Basketball 

Mike Loutzenheiser (lots-in-hi-zer) is beginning his inagural season with the Cougars. 

Coach Loutzenheiser was born and raised in Arizona, graduating from Payson High School and later Arizona State University with both a B.S. and Master’s in Special Education. Coach Loutz (“Lots”) played basketball at Grand Canyon University before transferring to ASU.  

His coaching career began in the early 1990’s as a JV basketball and football coach at both SunnySlope and Payson High Schools.  In 1997 he got his first varsity coaching job at Phoenix Center for Education and in 2001 he took over the men’s program at his high school alma mater.  While at Payson High School Coach Loutz led the Longhorns to the second most wins in school history. He was named 3A East Conference Coach of the Year in 2002-2003, along with being voted the Arizona 3A All-Star Coach in 2003.

After Moving to North Carolina in 2006, Coach Loutzenheiser spent four years at Southwestern Randolph, where he was the head football coach from 2007-2009.  Loutzenheiser's initial coaching opportunities after leaving Arizona came in football, but he calls “basketball his first love and can’t wait to get back into the gym.”  

In 2010 he took over the women’s basketball program at Pinecrest High School.  Coach Loutz was named the SouthEast Conference Coach of the Year while leading the Lady Patriots to a 17-7 record, the most wins in 19 years at Pinecrest.  Coach Loutzenheiser also led the Lady Capitals basketball program at Broughton High School from 2016-2019.

In 2019, after their youngest graduated high school and went to college, Mike and his wife Shea moved to their house on Oak Island. They are a blended family with four adult children and 4 grandbabies. 

Coach Loutz was the Linebackers coach at West Brunswick while teaching in the Life Skills Program from 2019-2021.  Because of family responsibilities, the Loutzenheisers built a house in Clayton and Coach Loutz took a PE and coaching position at Corinth Holders High School. Always wanting to get back to the beach, Coach Loutzenheiser enthusiastically accepted the Men’s Basketball and Physical Education positions at South Brunswick and looks forward to starting his life as a Cougar!
