Josh Bonifay:  (1992-1996)  Josh played varsity baseball all four years that he was at Roberson.  Following his junior and senior seasons, Josh was named to the All Conference team.  Josh represented TCR in the State Games as a junior and was also selected to be a member of the West Coast All Star team, sponsored by MLB.  In his senior season, he was selected as the Conference Player of the Year.  Josh was also named to the North Carolina All State team.  Following graduation from Roberson, Josh received a scholarship to UNC-Wilmington where he played baseball for three years.  He played 111 out of a total of 113 games, split time between infield and outfield, and finished with 21 home runs.  He was named MVP and National Player of the Week in 1999.  He graduated from UNCW in 2008 with a degree in Business Management after finishing his professional baseball career.  Josh was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1999 where he played in their minor leagues until 2005.  While playing in the Pirates’ organization, Josh was named to the Carolina League All-Star team and the Carolina League Post-Season All-Star team.  His team was the Carolina League Champions in 2002.  He continued his professional career with the Houston Astros where he played until 2007.  With the Astros, Josh was named to the Texas League All-Star team in 2006, and his Corpus Christi team was Texas League Champions in 2006.  For his minor league career, Josh played in 602 games and finished his career with a .284 batting average, a slugging percentage of .487 and an .842 OPS.  Following graduation from UNCW, Josh began his coaching and managing career with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, where he served as Development Coach from 2008-2010.  Josh then served as Hitting Coach, Manager and Field Coordinator for the Houston Astros from 2011-2016 and 2018.  As a hitting coach of the Houston Astros’ Lexington Legends team, Josh was named South Atlantic League Coach of the Year in 2012.  In 2013, Josh was named Manager of the Year for the Appalachian League when he was the manager of the Greeneville Astros.  In 2015, he was named Manager of the Year of the Midwest League when he was the manager of the Quad Cities River Bandits.  In 2017, he served as Major League Field Coordinator for the Texas Rangers.  Josh became the Director of Player Development for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018 and served in that capacity until 2021.  Since 2021, Josh has served as the Director of Player Development for the Texas Rangers.  The Texas Rangers were the World Series Champions in 2023.  Josh and his wife, Tiffany, live in Huntersville, NC.  They have three children, Cora, who is a gymnast and cheerleader, Caroline, who is a dancer and cheerleader, and Cole, who loves baseball!
