Brandy Carland Alm: (1994-1998) Brandy played basketball, volleyball and softball at Roberson. In basketball, Brandy was a 4-time team MVP, 4-time All-Conference, 2-time Conference Player of the Year and a Blue-White and East-West game performer. She holds the school record in assists and steals and finished her career with 1033 points. In softball, Brandy was a 3-time All-Conference player and was team MVP. She was chosen as the TCR most Outstanding Female Team Athlete her senior year. Following graduation from Roberson, Brandy was awarded a full scholarship to Mars Hill College. She transferred to play at Newberry College where she was 17 th in the nation in 3-point field goals. She was All-Conference at Newberry her senior year and was selected as team MVP her senior year. Following a brief career in real estate, Brandy now teaches and coaches at Polk County Middle School. Brandy’s family includes her husband, Billy and children Gunnar and Kenzie.
Meredith Allen Goodlatte: (1985-1989) Meredith played basketball for 4 years, volleyball for 3 years and ran track one year at Roberson. While at Roberson, Meredith led her team in rebounding for 4 years, was a varsity starter for 3 years, was a 2-time All-WNC performer and was a State Games participant. She was named a team captain and received the Golden Cager award. Meredith received a basketball scholarship to Belmont Abbey College where she played for two years. Following a “red-shirt” year, she then played at the College of Charleston for two years. Currently, Meredith lives in Orlando, FL where she is a flight attendant with Allegiant Airlines. Meredith’s family includes her husband, Doug, a daughter and a son.
Tony Huntsinger: (1962-1966) Tony played football, basketball, baseball and ran track at Roberson. He was a 4-year letterman in football, 3-year letterman in basketball, 4-year letterman in baseball and a 4-year letterman in track. In football, Tony was a 2-time All-Conference, All-County and All-WNC performer. He was selected as the most athletic performer his senior year. Following graduation, Tony served in the Air Force for 4 years. While in the Air Force, Tony participated on the traveling softball team for 4 years. Tony served as an assistant football coach at Roberson from 1984-1988. He is a Past-President of the Arden, Skyland Jaycees, Past-President of the Biltmore Valley Springs Youth Football League, and current President of the Skyland Fire Department Board of Directors. Tony has recently retired from a long and distinguished career as a store manager with Ingles. Tony’s family includes his wife, Linda, children Toni, Wade, Stacie and Jodi, and grandchildren Stella, Scarlet, Halie and Abby.
Eric Kenny: (1973-1977) Eric played basketball and tennis and ran cross country while at Roberson. His main sport, however, was basketball. He set school records for most points in a season, most field goals in a season and highest field goal average for a season. Eric was selected as all conference, all county, all WNC, played in the Blue-White All Star game (MVP), played in the East-West All Star game and was chosen as the MVP of his team his senior year. Eric went on to UNC-Chapel Hill and played basketball there for Coach Dean Smith. Eric began on the UNC JV team and then was a walk-on to the varsity, but eventually earned a full scholarship at UNC. His teams won regular season ACC championships, ACC tournament championships and qualified for the NCAA tournament. In his senior year, Eric was named team captain and his team finished as West Region champions and national tournament finalist. He made the ACC Honor Roll and made the All ACC Academic team his senior year. He was also named the Most Inspirational Player in his senior year. Following graduation from UNC-CH, Eric attended UNC Medical School where he graduated with his degree. Eric currently lives in Lynchburg, VA where he is the staff Rheumatologist at the Orthopedic Center of Central Virginia. Eric’s family includes his wife, Karen, daughters, Kristen and Meg and son, Michael.
Tom Leslie: (1966-1970) Tom played football for four years at Roberson, three of those on the varsity. He also participated in gymnastics and ran track for three years. In football, Tom was a 3-time All-Conference, 2-time All-WNC and 2-time Hal Weir (MVP) performer. He was named team captain his senior year. Tom also received the Golden Helmet award (given to the player considered to be the hardest hitter!) three different years. In gymnastics, Tom earned 2 varsity letters and was selected as most outstanding his senior year. In track, Tom earned 4 varsity letters. Following graduation from Roberson, Tom was awarded a full athletic scholarship to the University of South Carolina to play football. Tom was the first TC Roberson graduate to be awarded a full athletic scholarship in any sport at the NCAA Division I level. In his freshman year, Tom led his team in tackles and interceptions. He earned a varsity letter at USC in football in 1972 which is believed to be the first NCAA division I varsity letter earned by a TCR graduate. Currently, Tom is the President and CEO of Leslie and Associates, Inc. in Asheville, NC, the largest property management company in WNC. Tom’s family includes his wife, Madelyn, son, David and daughter, Katherine.
Katie Polonsky: (1998-2002) Katie played varsity soccer at Roberson. While at Roberson she was a 4-time All-Conference, 4-time All-region, 3-time All-WNC, 3-time All-State performer. She is 2 nd all-time in points in school history. Katie was named team captain her senior season. She was also named the conference player of the year and the Hendersonville Times-News player of the year. She was selected as her team MVP three times and was selected to play in the East-West All Star game. She finished Roberson as a top 15 scholar. Katie attended UNC-Chapel Hill where she played club and intramural soccer. Following her graduation from UNC, Katie received her masters degree from the University of Limerick in Ireland. After moving to Washington, DC and working for a while, Katie attended and graduated, summa cum laude, from Vermont Law School. She is currently serving as a public defender in Keene, New Hampshire. She continues to play soccer in New Hampshire!
Brad Pomeroy: (1998-2002) Brad played tennis at Roberson. While at Roberson, Brad was a 4-time All-Conference and a 4-time All-WNC performer. He was also the conference player of the year. While playing for Roberson, Brad was a 3-time State 3-A singles champion. His 2001 team also won the State 3-A dual team championship. Following graduation from Robeson, Brad attended UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a 4- year starter. In doubles, Brad was ranked #1 in the nation in Division 1. He was a first team All-American in 2005-2006. He was selected as team captain at UNC and is in the top 10 in career wins at UNC. He has won 3 professional tennis tournament titles, has 10 professional runner-up finishes and had a career high ATP ranking of #423 in the world. Brad lives in Raleigh, NC and serves as the Head Tennis Professional at Hollow Rock Racquet and Swim Club in Durham, NC.
Jerry Wilkins: (1981-2001) Jerry was on the staff at TC Roberson from 1981 through 2001 where he was a PE and Health teacher and coach. While at Roberson, Jerry coached football for 20 years, track for 12 years, basketball for 3 years and served as assistant athletic director for 7 years. While at Roberson, Jerry developed and organized the weight room and fitness programs for PE classes and athletic teams. As head football coach, Jerry coached 5 Shrine Bowl selections and 2 All-State players. 2 of his players advanced to the NFL. His boys track teams were conference champions 8 times, Buncombe County champions 8 times, and State 3-A champions in 1997. He coached several conference, regional and state individual champions in track. Jerry was selected as conference coach of the year in both football and track. After leaving Roberson, Jerry began working for Kimmel and Associates in Asheville. He is currently the Vice-President and New Hire Trainer for Kimmel. Jerry’s family includes his wife, Lorna, son, Justin and daughter, Ashton.
