Andrew Anderson: (1985-1989) Andrew played golf all four years that he was at TC Roberson. Other than his very first match as a freshman, Andrew played in the #1 position on the golf team for all four of his years on the team at Roberson. Among his many achievements as a golfer, Andrew once shot a five under par 67 as a freshman during a match that was played in the snow! During his career at Roberson, Andrew won 16 individual high school tournaments. Most importantly to him, his team won the 3A State Championship in his senior year in 1989. After graduating from Roberson, Andrew received a full scholarship to play golf at Central Alabama Junior College. While playing at Central Alabama, Andrew won 4 college tournaments in his sophomore year, leading his team to the Junior College National Championship. Andrew was named as a 1st team All American in his sophomore year. After Central Alabama, Andrew received a full scholarship to play golf at East Carolina University. He was a pre-season All American his senior year at ECU. A highlight of his career at East Carolina was winning Clemson’s Spring golf tournament on Mother’s Day with his mom in attendance. Andrew turned professional in June of 1993 and played professional golf until 1997. As a professional, Andrew was the 1993 Hurricane Golf Rookie of the Year and won 6 professional golf tournaments. He qualified to play in 3 Nike Tour events which is now called the Web.Com Tour. Andrew has been working for the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office since 1997. He was first assigned as a Patrol Officer. He then worked for nine years in the Violent Crimes Unit. He is a polygraph examiner for the Sheriff’s Office and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant. Currently, Andrew works in the Support Services Division of the Sheriff’s Office supervising 22 people and is responsible for budget and finance. His wife, Tara, has been a teacher for 19 years. His step son, Josh, is a sophomore at Hendersonville High School and plays soccer.
Caroline Taylor: (2002-2006, 2018) Caroline played varsity softball all four years that she was at TC Roberson. She excelled all four years as a varsity player, helping to lead the change in her teams from being good to being great while winning Roberson’s first MAC Tournament in 2006. Caroline’s main position was shortstop. However, when the team needed her, she was able to switch positions and also serve as catcher. She maintained a career batting average of .410 and had a 14 game hitting streak. Caroline was named to the All-Conference Team all four years of her career. She was also named to the All-WNC team her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, Caroline was selected as the most valuable Offensive Player. After graduating from Roberson, Caroline began her career in the United States Navy. She is currently ranked as an E-6 Petty Officer First Class serving the rate of Master-At-Arms (MA1). Caroline has deployed four times serving in Operation Inherent Resolve (2017), Operation Vigilant Mariner (2009, 2010) and Operation Unified Response (2010) providing disaster relief rescue efforts after the deadly earthquake struck the country of Haiti. She was named Blue Jacket of the Year (2009) and Junior Sailor of the Year (2012, 2014). While serving, Caroline received numerous commendations, including: (5) Navy Achievement Medals, (1) Battle “E” on CVN 77, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Services Medal, Humanitarian Medal, (3) Sea Service Medals, (3) Good Conduct Medals, and the Rifle and Pistol Medal. Caroline left active duty in 2018 and presently serves in the United States Reserves. Caroline is currently an assistant coach to the women’s varsity softball team.
Darrin Ball: (1989-2003) Darrin coached basketball, football and track while at Roberson. Darrin served as the Head Girls Track Coach for 13 years. His teams won 11 Buncombe County Championships and 12 Conference Championships. His teams won 10 3A Regional Track Championships and were 3A State Champions 3 times in 1997, 1998 and 2000. Coach Ball coached 7 different individual state champion athletes, 5 state championship relay teams and 2 3A State Meet “Most Valuable Performers” in his career at Roberson. For those accomplishments, Coach Ball was named as the Citizen-Times Coach of the Year 6 times, Conference Coach of the Year 7 times and 3A State Coach of the Year 3 times. After his career at Roberson, Darrin worked for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Division of Law Enforcement. He retired in 2016 and now works, part time, at Champion Hills Golf Club. Darrin’s wife, Dana, works for Electronic Office in Asheville. They have 2 children, Nathan, a junior at UNCA, and Rachel, an 8th grader at Rugby Middle School. They live in Mills River.
Kathy Eaton: (1998-2016) Kathy Eaton epitomizes the definition and true meaning of the word, volunteer: “one who unselfishly gives of her time and talents with no thought of personal recognition.” She has done all this and more, always with a smile on her face, giving of her time and energies to support the athletes and athletic program at TC Roberson. Kathy has done this at many different schools, always with a great love and spirit for helping others. Kathy began her volunteer career with the Boy Scouts some 25 years ago. She still is very active with that group. She served in various capacities with the PTA and PTSO organizations at Glen Arden Elementary School, Valley Springs Middle School, Cane Creek Middle School and TC Roberson High School. It has been at Roberson that Kathy truly has left her mark on the athletic programs with her work with the Roberson Rams Club. Kathy has supervised all aspects of the concessions operations for the Rams Club for 19 years. This has included all sports! Not one athletic program from Roberson has been neglected by this amazing person. During her tenure, she has also “branched out” to also include providing hospitality when that was needed and desired. For all of her dedication to TC Roberson athletics, Kathy received the Tommy Koontz “Heart of Gold” recognition.
Matt Wright: (1995-1999) Matt played basketball and baseball during his career at Roberson. He earned a starting position in basketball during his sophomore year, but baseball became his true love. Matt was a four year starter as a varsity player for Roberson. Matt was also inducted into the TCR Honor Society. Although Matt received many awards and recognitions during his baseball career, it was his work ethic and leadership qualities that really made him stand out. In the words of his coach, “he made everyone around him better.” In his senior year, Matt led his team to an undefeated regular season, a regional championship and state 3A runner-up title. He was named conference Player of the Year. He was named to the All State Team and was named the 3A State Player of the Year in North Carolina. Matt was awarded the Juan Chesson and Rams Club scholarships in his senior year. After graduating from Roberson, Matt received a scholarship to play baseball at UNC Wilmington where he was a 4-year starter at first base. He continues to hold many records at UNCW: Most games played, most career starts, most double plays turned, most sacrifice flies, 2nd all time in triples, 2nd all time in RBI’s, and 2nd all time in walks. Matt was chosen as team captain his Junior and Senior year. In 2003, Matt led UNCW to their first NCAA post-season appearance in the Baton Rouge Regionals against LSU, Tulane and Northwestern. Matt ended his baseball career with a 2 homerun, 5 RBI effort in a loss to LSU in 11 innings in front of 8500 fans. Matt was named an NCAA All-Regional player. Matt has since been named to the UNCW All Decade team in 2005. Since graduation from UNCW, Matt has excelled in his professional career as well. He spent 11 years at Tarheel Physician Supply Corporation, based in Wilmington, first as a sales representative, then Director of Sales and in 2009 he was named as the youngest President ever at the company. In 2014, Matt jumped at an opportunity from Mission Health to develop an extensive, retail growth strategy for the organization. He and his wife, Heather, also a Roberson alumna, have 3 children (Thomas 10, Eleanor 7, and Lottie 1) and are thrilled to be back in the Roberson community. Matt spends many a day now coaching South Buncombe Rec baseball and basketball and Roberson Rambler baseball.
