Joy Doner: (1994-1998) Joy played varsity soccer for all four years that she was at Roberson. She was all-conference for all four years and was the Mountain Athletic Conference player of the year. She was chosen as her team’s MVP twice. She earned all-region honors three times and all-state honors twice. Her teams were state runner-up twice. She was chosen to play in the State games twice and the East-West All-Star game her senior year. She earned the team MVP honor in her senior year. Her total of 94 career goals scored was the school record, until recently broken, and now ranks her 2nd all time. One of her most outstanding games was in the playoffs against Hickory when she scored all 6 of her teams goals in a 6-3 win. After graduation from Roberson, Joy attended UNC-Chapel Hill where she played A Club soccer for 3 years and then was a part of the UNC varsity team her senior year. She received her master’s degree in physical therapy and has been practicing in Charlotte, specializing in outpatient orthopedics. Her recent accomplishments include volunteering in South Africa as a physical therapist for three months in the pediatrics ward of an orthopedic specialty hospital, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and playing adult women’s soccer.
