We are learning to apply visualisation as a reading comprehension strategy.
I can:
use descriptions in the text to help me visualise a scene
use my senses to describe what I see, smell, taste, hear, touch
read phrases in a text and match phrase to the appropriate sense
find phrases in my own text and match phrase/phrases to sense
Read the following text and identify senses that match the phrases.
The Enchanted Forest
As I stepped into the forest, the crisp scent of pine needles filled the air, mingling with the earthy aroma of damp soil. Sunlight streamed through the canopy, casting dappled shadows on the moss-covered ground. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, creating a soft, whispering melody. The vibrant colors of wildflowers—purples, yellows, and reds—popped against the lush green backdrop. I could taste the sweetness of the air, as if the forest itself was offering a refreshing drink. Every step was cushioned by the spongy moss beneath my boots, making the journey feel like walking on clouds.

Represent understanding visually. ( draw the description of what you have just read)
Reflect on how visualising aided comprehension.
With a partner read a passage from a book together, find and match phrases to senses. Discuss how using senses enhances comprehension.
● How is the author appealing to the five senses?
● How can my own knowledge help me to draw a picture in my mind?
● How can my visualisations help me to understand the text?
Once you have answered all reflection questions, set yourself a goal for Wednesday.
