Learning Intention: We are learning to calculate percentage discounts of 10%, 25%, and 50%
Success Criteria:
I can convert 10%, 25%, and 50% to decimals.
I can calculate the discount amount on items using these percentages.
I can determine the final price after discount and explain the process using both mental calculations and digital tools.
Board work, created by teacher
Students explore a mock online toy catalogue with items priced between $20 and $80. For each:
Convert 10%, 25% and 50% to 0.10, 0.25 and 0.50
Calculate discount = price × decimal equivalent, first by hand then verify with a calculator
Determine sale price and present their findings in table form.
Give students “mystery” price tags (e.g. $47, $63) and ask them to calculate 25% off mentally using rounding strategies, then check with digital tools
