Baltimore Montessori Public Charter School is a mission-driven school in Greenmount West, the urban heart of Baltimore’s Arts and Entertainment District. Together with our community partners and families, we transformed two vacant buildings and an empty lot into a vibrant learning community, and opened our doors in 2008 as Baltimore City’s first public Montessori school.

Now in our 12th year, Baltimore Montessori Public serves 450 students in PreK3-8th grade, who travel from 26 different Baltimore City zip codes to attend our joyful and diverse learning community. Our school features beautiful spaces for learning and play, with an extensive Seed to Table program that includes a student-powered kitchen and garden, structures for environmental learning, habitats for chickens and bees, and a school-wide commitment to sustainability. Our facility also includes space for use by our neighbors in the community of Greenmount West.

In our environment, children learn with highly trained teacher-guides in carefully prepared, mixed-age Montessori classrooms. Students explore a rigorous, individually-paced curriculum, and engage in relevant projects that promote independence, critical thinking, and self-regulation. We provide meaningful opportunities to explore the arts, safe spaces for movement and play, community-building, overnight camping expeditions, and 20+ after school clubs and activities. Our whole child approach supports students to develop the habits and mindsets necessary for academic and social success, cultivate their capacity for peace, and prepare for global citizenship.

OUR MISSION is to build a diverse and respectful community of joyfully engaged learners by providing a holistic Montessori environment that supports individual fulfillment, compassion, self-discipline, lifelong learning, and a deep awareness of our responsibility to contribute meaningfully to our world.
