Otterlotl Introduction
Introducing the Otterlotl: The Otterlotl is an Otter crossed with an Axolotl. The Otterlotl is a mamphibian (mammal and amphibian). The Otterlotl is a predator, which is an animal that kills their prey. They live in a Tundra-like environment, on the equator. They generally live in freshwater, but some have adapted to saltwater.
Description
The Otterlotl is roughly 2.5 to 3 feet tall, and it is shaped similar to a Baguette. There are some really good physical characteristics that the Otterlotl have: These consist of their fur, head, eyes, nose, limbs, tail, teeth, external gills and blubber. Their fur is dense and water-repellent so they can stay warm and dry. They have a small and round head with a short snout. Their whiskers are prominent and sensitive. This helps detect prey in murky waters. Their small eyes are positioned for underwater and above-water vision. Their nose is flattened with the ability to close their nostrils to keep out unwanted water. Their legs are short and stubby with webbed paws for more efficient swimming. They also have strong claws for digging and handling prey. Their tail is long and fin-like, extending from the body and aiding in swimming. It is also flat and paddle-like, providing propulsion in water. Their teeth are sharp and robust, adapted for eating a variety of prey including fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. They also have these little ear-like things on the top of their head. These are called external gills and are feathery gills that extend from the sides of their head, usually three pairs. And last but not least, the thin layer of blubber. This thin layer of blubber helps them keep warm. Yes, their fur does keep them warm, but the blubber is like a warm blanket made out of fat. These are all of the physical characteristics that an Otterlotl has.
Habitat
The Otterlotl likes to live in a few places. The water they swim in is fresh water. If they ever get cold, they tend to either bury themselves in snow, or find an igloo to stay in (it's like a mini hotel). Otterlotls tend to find a home on the equator. They choose the equator because it’s a lot warmer than the rest of Planet X.
Adaptations
Otterlotls have interesting adaptations. One of the many adaptations the Otterlotls have, is that they have both lungs, and external gills. They give birth to live babies in either an igloo, or under the snow. They do that so they can keep their pups warm. Their diet consists of fish, crustaceans, and small mammals.
Interesting Information
Did you know that an Otterlotl has terrible hearing because they have no ears? But, they make up for it with their hearing, and maybe some of their cuteness. Also, Otterlotls can swim up to 12 km/ph. Wow they are fast!! They can also hold their breath for 137 minutes or more. I think the cutest one of them all is when they go to sleep and they are floating on top of the water - they hold hands to stop each other from drifting off. And last but not least, when their mothers or fathers abandon their babies, a Polar Seal takes them in as their own and raises them. How cute is that!
I hope you enjoyed learning about the Otterlotl, have a great day!
