Mr. Mears, the beloved psychology teacher we all know, will be leaving next year. This was very surprising and sad news for many, so I asked him a few questions about his new beginnings and what drove him to do what he is planning for the future.
Q: Where will you be a principal?
A: I will be the principal at Queen of Peace School in Hamilton.
Q: What drove you to become a principal?
A: I think a combination of many things. In order to renew my teaching license years ago, I took college courses to become a principal. I thought the courses were interesting. For the past 6 years, I have been the faculty rep on Badin's School Board. This has allowed me to have an inside look at the many things that running a school involves. At some point I began to think I might be interested in the challenge.
Q: When did you first decide you were going to take on the challenge of being a principal?
A: For the past year, I have been involved in a "training program" for principals. It is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Through this program, I have had a chance to meet principals throughout Cincinnati and talk with them about the challenges of being a school leader. These conversations have been motivating.
We all will miss Mr. Mears next year, when he is living the high life as the principal of Queen of Peace.
