Sophomores are ready to do some service.
The new service plan set up for the class of 2021 for their junior year is all about building relationships. Their freshman year, students became aware of the issues in our community like poverty, homelessness, animal rights and so much more. Their sophomore year was based on action. Students received the opportunity to go out into the community to learn and work with nonprofit organizations. Now going into their junior year, the class of 2021 are in the process of choosing a nonprofit organization to partner with and complete twenty hours of service with that agency.
“I’m planning on pairing up with Animal Friends Humane Society because I’ve always had an interest in animals, and their organization has a great focus on animals. I think it’s a great cause and I’d think I would really enjoy it.” sophomore Hannah Riecke said.
A few weeks ago was the Service Fair and sophomores were able meet with several nonprofit organizations dealing with several different issues. Students were able to get an idea of what they would enjoy doing for their junior year of service.
Sophomore Elaina Jackson explained why she chose the organization that she did.
“I chose Hamilton Living Water Ministries because I served there last year and there is a huge need for volunteers there to help tutor the kids and I thought ‘why not go back?’”
The nonprofit organizations all help a variety of issues in the community. There are so many organizations that deal with direct and indirect service to help people, animals, or other issues. The agencies are always looking for volunteers and hope to make the lives of others a little better.
“I think the kids have a huge impact on me and have shown me different perspectives because they have led very different lives than me and helped me learn more about them and myself,” sophomore Logan Hage said.
Sophomores are looking forward to spending time with an agency and getting to build relationships and help make a difference.
