Helping kids decide if they want to come to Badin is a stressful and exciting job.
On Sunday, Nov. 4, Badin had its open house. I am an ambassador so I got to give tours to kids who are thinking about coming to Badin. Giving a tour consists of going around the school to different classrooms and meeting the teachers.
On the day of Open House, I got to school at 11:30 for pizza and a meeting to go over any questions we had. All the ambassadors then gathered together in the PFAC to wait for potential students to come in. I was pretty nervous because I’ve never given a tour before and usually I’m not great at talking to people. People started to flood in, and the seniors went first to give tours. As I stood in the back waiting, finally it was my turn. I walked up to a pair of girls with their mom and introduced myself to them. Then the tour began.
First I took them to the bottom floor and went to the different classrooms. It was hard to keep conversation going and thinking of good questions to ask them. Once we were done with the bottom floor, we walked up to the main floor and talked to some teachers and then went into the gym. The gym was very hectic, there were a lot of tables and they didn’t seem very interested in a lot of them. I tried to get them to talk to all the different sports and clubs and see if they found anything they were interested in. After that, we went back up to the top floor and talked about science and technology. Once the tour was all over, it was hard to believe that the tour had lasted an hour. Even though giving tours is stressful, it’s good to know that you are helping kids decide what they want to do for their future.
