Substituting at a new school for day or a week can be a hectic experience for a substitute teacher. Substituting for three months, however, is a whole different story. Mrs. Tara Robinson is substituting for Mrs. Keating until Spring Break, since she just had an infant.
However, this is not a new experience for Mrs. Robinson.
“I’ve been substituting for about 10 years now. I move around a lot because of my husband’s job,” Robinson said.
Moving around has taken Robinson a lot of places.
“I taught in Atlanta for five years, did a short stint in South Carolina, but spent most of my time here,” said Robinson.
Mrs. Robinson, through all of her traveling, has had most pleasant experiences with the variety of schools she’s substituted at.
“I’ve been happy with most the places I’ve been. When you respect the kids, the kids will respect you back,” Robinson said.
Robinson has loved her time at Badin so far.
“Everyone has been so nice, the students are well behaved, and I love the schedule. Having two plan periods is nice,” said Robinson.
Being strictly a sub has an unique advantage for Mrs. Robinson.
“It gives me time to focus on my writing,” said Robinson.
Robinson, whose pen name is Tara Tyler, is a published author with many novels on the market.
“I’ve been writing for around 10 years. I write sci-fi detective thrillers, and my first novel was Pop Travel. I usually try and write one novel a year,” Robinson said.
Writing is something Robinson loves, but she doesn’t just do it for herself.
Robinson said, “I started writing to inspire kids.”
