Music has brought people together and torn them apart since the beginning of time. At the homecoming dance, music was a controversial topic once again.
With all different genres of music these days it's hard to find a playlist that everyone will enjoy. One of the most touched upon subjects was that song suggestions should be able to be taken during the dance. Another complaint was that there were too many remixes at the beginning of the dance.
“The DJ could take requests during the dance so that the people there will enjoy it more, and not play too many uncommon or old songs,” said Sandra Janakievski.
Janakievski touches on some of the most brought up issues with the music. The music was outdated and was hard to dance to because most people didn’t know the songs. Kids were struggling with fact of not being able to suggest songs during the dance was happening. This resulted in a continuous chant for songs. There were some good aspects of the music though.
“My top three favorite songs were ‘Dura,’ ‘Womp Womp,’ and ‘Don’t Stop Believin.’ These were my favorite because when they played everyone had good energy and was having a fun time, including myself,” said Janakievski.
Songs that are more known by people and upbeat make the dance more exciting for everyone. Music sets the tone for everything else at the dance. Many said that a lot of the songs got many people dancing and got the morale of the students up.
“I think line dances get everyone more involved and get everyone dancing even those who don’t usually dance,” said Issy Helton.
Getting everyone to dance is sometimes a hard process. But according to this student line dances are a perfect way to get everyone involved and having some fun. This truly is the whole point of the dance so line dances are a great decision to keep in the playlist.
Overall music will always be a fought over topic so finding a happy medium for everyone will be difficult. Finding new and upbeat songs is essential to having a fun and successful dance for everyone.
