One of the greatest questions in basketball is what kind of shot form should I have?
To answer this question James Martin and I took four famous shot forms and shot the ball 15 times from four different places on the basketball court: the foul line, top of key 3, corner 3, and a half court shot.
First, we used a two hand shot form, famously used by LaMelo Ball. This shot had interesting results. James shot 4/15 from the foul line, 5/15 from the top of key 3 point line, 2/15 from half-court and 6/15 from the corner 3. This shot proved effective from the 3 point arc, but inside the arc the results were okay at best.
Next, we used a wind up shot, trademarked by LeBron James. This shot proved the best from all around shooting 7/15 from the foul line, and both 3 point shots. This shot did not have good results from the half-court only shooting 2/15 from it.
Third, we tried the circular shot, used by Lonzo Ball. This shot was all over the place, yet yielded surprising results. From the foul line the ball went into the net 7/15 times, and both 3 point shots had 6/15. Considering the shot involves an awkward wind up, James and I were surprised the ball went into the net as often as it did. This form went 0/15 from half court, no surprise there since you use only arms for the shot and have little to no power coming from your legs.
Finally, we used the quick release shot. This shot was made famous by Wardell Stephen Curry. This shot gave us results we all expected. 10/15 from the foul line, 8/15 from top of key 3 and 7/15 from corner 3, and 3/15 from half-court. This shot yielded the best results out of all fours forms.
All in all, each shot has its own pros and cons. According to the stats, the shot Lebron James uses, the wind-up, is the best overall shot.
