Are you secretly a bookworm, or can’t put the brakes on writing stories? (Don’t worry it’s never a bad thing). Some of us probably roll over complaining when we hear our English teachers announce a new essay to write, but others walk out of the classroom, fist in the air celebrating. Fins and flippers are busy stroking down words in the Creative Writing Club.
“I would say that our main goal for our club is to encourage all of our members to be more comfortable with and adapt to both writing and sharing their writing,” said Junior Nate Hogan, president of the club. “We want to give people an opportunity to grow as writers in a judgement-free environment. But above all, the goal is to help everyone have fun with writing and be able to tell all of the stories in their heads.”
During meetings, everyone gets the chance to share their thoughts and stories to others. When faced with writer’s block in stories, it’s easy to reach out for help and gather ideas to hopefully get our papers back in the making.
“I love creative writing and it’s better way of getting an audience for my works,” said Senior Chelsea Andorn.
During meetings the club writes and branches out of their comfort zones, always trying new things. The club is planning to read a novel together and then see a movie and discuss it afterwards on some dislikes and likes about the movie. Junior Andrew Moore explained what his favorite genre of books or movies is.
“I’m intrigued by stuff in the horror genre mainly. The atmospheres made in horror stories are extremely well done and inspire me to make similar works,” Moore said.
The club is definitely a new fresh project and a great way to express differences and become engaged in others opinions and thoughts.
“Honestly, just do it. We do not, by any means, judge. We welcome all sorts of writers: skilled, amateur, dark, funny, you name it! It’s just a safe environment where you can go to share your love of literature with others. If you’re thinking about joining, just come to Room 110 after school on a Monday and try it out!” Hogan said.
